4.10's ?

Ok now that peole have been running higher gears for a while any regrets? And what kind of gas milage with a 5 speed?

No regrets and gas mileage has not noticeably changed. 1st gear does go by fast now but I expected that much. 2nd pulls like a rocket.

Anyone running 3:93 gears? What brand did everyone buy? Motive or Ford Racing?

I think 3.93 would be a nice compromise, and I've heard the Motive gears are a little better than the Ford gears. One guy in a thread was having reliability problems with the Ford 4.10's (they broke on him).

I haven't tried either yet, just what I've heard.

Im putting my 4.10's in my 5-Speed sometime within the next 2 weeks. If u want to wait till then ill let you know how it is. There are charts out, search for them(sorry dont have time to find them for you right now). Some have said going from 3.55's(stock) to 3.93's are sorta pointless since it is not even a noticeable improvement, where 4.10's are really really nice for getting off the line. They also only up the RPM's by about 500 when cruising on the highway. I think the chart said something like 85@2850 instead of 85@2350 which is stock, my numbers could be totally wrong but its something like that. I know it is not a serious wear and tear on the engine, guess just how much shifting you will like to do due to where you live. Im going ford gears by the way, just waiting for my boy to give me a day to install them.

I'm having 4.10s installed this week along with a Steeda tri-ax shifter. I'll post my thoughts after the install.

I put 4.30's in my Mustang and love them. It accelerates better at all rpms. At 78mph I cruise at 2800rpm according to the factory tach. On a trip from Memphis to Nashville, it got 21.4 mpg. Not bad for that much gear.......

assuming that the data is correct I work it out to be 3050rpm @ 85mph

right be he said that was on his factory tach. niner555 did you change the tach so that it is correct because it needs to be altered. I think you are at a higher RPM then what the tach is really telling you since you did not reset it

ay!

By tach I assume you mean rev counter which is telling you engine rpms, this is usually recorded via a pulse from the alternator. You don't even to have an axel on the car to measure engine rpms.

The speedo may well be out due the variation in propshaft rotation compared to wheel rotation.

Yes they can and no, a tune is not needed.

you have to reset your speedo calibration....otherwise your speedo will be off....a tuner can do this for you, but you do not have to tune the engine....

I installed 4.30's in mine about 6 months ago, and they feel like crap compared to 3.73's in an old fox-body mustang. normally gears are the most "seat of the pants" bang for the buck mod there is but, they truly felt like crap in my 05 GT

OK, not to sound like a jerk but...

"4.10" is a LOWER gear ratio than the stock setup. Rear end gearing is expressed as a ratio of the output RPM over the input RPM (or the RATIO of the input to the output).

4.10 is really 1/4.1
