4.30 users

from the research i have done, it seems as if only a motive made FRPP 4.30 is available. does anyone have a ford made 4.30? if not, how were your personal experiences?

if anyone knows where to buy a ford made FRPP 4.30 set, please let me know! and no, i do not want 4.10s

As you know, I have 4.30s. I got my gears from 50resto and had them installed at a place called Speed Inc. near Chicago. This place even used their own install kit along with Royal Purple fluid.

Now, the box the gears came in does say M-4209-G430M, so they were made by Motive. I don't know if I got lucky or not, but I don't have any gear whine at all. I honestly think that it's not the brand of gears that always causes the whine -- it' the install because EVERYONE was crying to not get Motive gears, but I did and I'm happy I did. I also know another guy who got actual Motive 4.30s from american muscle, did the install him self, and does not have one bit of gear whine.

Just get the 4.30s because i'm sooooo happy I got them over the 4.10s. Find an installer with A LOT of experience, and you will not have any problems.

Not meaning to hijack the thread but,
Can I ask why both of you chose the 4.30's over the 4.10's? I was considering 4.10's in my car, but if there is something that I don't know about, then please shed some light on the subject for me!

I went with 4.30s because they're only like 300 RPMs or whatever higher than the 4.10s. And, honestly, gas milage? It's a V8, and I didn't buy the car to even ever think about conserving gas. I'm VERY happy with my 4.30s and would never do anything less if I had to do it over again. Part of me, heaven forbid according to most on this forum, would look at doing 4.56s since I'm staying N/A.

In your case, go 4.30 because if you go 4.10, then you'll always be wondering "What if I had 4.30s. Would it be better...?" And, yes, they are better.

the 3Vs love gearing. like said before, the RPM differnce is not enough for me to worry about. the only time it would be any kind of issue is on long roadtrips, but i dont do that very often. some 4.10 users wish they would have went with 4.30s to begin with. (similar to the people that get 3.73s and then wish they went with 4.10s)

nobody has complained about 4.10s being too much gear, but some think not enough.

I thought that it was more than the 300RPM difference. Since I am also going to be N/A then the higher gear will probably work better for me. I think that I will go with the 4.30's then.

And would you recommend getting the M-4209-G430M? I know that you BleedingvayneAD haven't had any problems with them. Would you chalk that up to a better install or just being lucky?

You might look into Pro 5.0 gears- they back cut the gear so it is 2.5lbs. lighter than anyone else. That is my next upgrade since I've tried to get rid of as much parasitic loss as possible & they claim to be quiet.

i can get a great deal on PRO 5.0 gears, but am leary of installing them.

Its all in the pattern & backlash. If you have done other brands & other types of vehicles should be no worries. I bought frpp 4.10a & at one piticular spot in the throttle I can make them howl not coast or drive side. I've installed a lot of gears & every once in a while I get a howl & don't know why.

I just got mine from parkwayford on ebay. I got them for $175 shipped. The part number in the ad said M-4209-G430. I don't have the box here or I would check to see if it had the "M" on it or not. Anyway, the point of my 2 cents here is that I thought I got a good deal on them and I have absolutely no gear noise. Hope it helps.

yeah, parkway has a great deal on FRPP 4.30s. they are the cheapest i have found, but they are indeed the motive made gears. it is the same price on thier website as well.

i am glad to hear that these are not making any noise. that makes me feel better.

i cant say, its the "good guy" discount. i can get them a little cheaper than FRPP, but would prefer FRPP.

Got a few more miles on my FRPP motive made 4.30's and the only noise I hear is from the street tires transforming into drag slicks. I am very happy with the quality of the gears. May be having second thoughts about putting 4.30's into a terminator, but very happy with the quality of the gears.

Bigcat or shhak---

Did you guys install the gears yourself or did you have a shop do it for you? I was quoted $300 total for the install. Does that sound right to you guys?

when i called around to get quotes, i was told about $600 for gears, parts, and labor.

gears are roughly $200
install kit, about $40
oil, about $20
friction modifier, about $4
total, about $265 plus tax. subtract that from $600, and you get $335. so, that price for labor seems reasonable.

Thanks Bigcat, I think that I will go with him. He is a good friend of my dad's, but he sometimes doesn't give that 'good guy' discount....dunno why, he is kind of a strange fellow thought. Super awesome at what he does.

I had mine installed at the same time the shop did my MM subframe bushings, diff bushings, billetflow IRS brace etc... They were going to have to have the diff cover off anyway since they had to fix a little leak. I think they got me for an extra 1.5 hours to install the gears, so that equals about $100 extra. But still $300-$350 for an install sounds about like the going rate these days.
If you do get them, you'll love them. Especially in a N/A car.

Thats exactly what I am building, an N/A car. So, I think that the 4.30's will be the best for me. Hopefully I get them in soon, so I can get 'em in the car!
