...Speaking on a "per liter" basis. GT vs Z28 motor:

260hp/4.605 L = 56.46 hp/L
302ftlbs/4.605 L = 65.58 ftlbs/L
Z28
310hp/5.670 L = 54.67 hp/L
340ftlbs/5.670 L = 59.96 ftlbs/L
That's 3% better in HP/L and over 9% better in ftlbs/L
Granted, these are the peak numbers and one could argue the LS1 winds up faster/has a flatter torque curve, which it does... but as Ford proved in the Bullitt, that has more to do with what feeds and relieves the engine. Interesting... maybe the LS1 is impressive more because of sheer displacement and not because of genius.
