I have just been using 5 quarts of 10w30 Mobile1.
But, I have noticed that some have been using 5 1/2 - 6 quarts.
I need to look at my manual to see what it says.
So far 5 quarts brings the level right up to the line on my dipstick.
I have a 2001 GT if that makes any difference

actually i think it depends on what year your car is. Mine requires 6 qts.

I just did the first oil change on my '04 GT, and I used 6 quarts of Mobil 1 10W-30. Seems like the oil pressure is a tiny bit higher than it was before, but I don't remember exactly where the needle was before the change. No problems though. Manual says to use 6.

5 qts on the 99-01, 6qts on the 02+
Reading the mangled dipstick is a joke - was it really necessary to make the dipstick like this?

Sorry for the confusion.

Haynes manual states 5 qts.

Owners manual states 6 qts.

These are both with filter change for a 2002 GT.

Thanks for the replys!!

I use 5 1/2 quarts of Mobil 1 5W-30. Even though the manual says to use 5W-20, it's still okay to use 5W-30 and 10W-30 grades?

If the manual says use 5W-20, why would you use anything else?

I always use 10w30. Auto makers have their reasons to use 5w20 (better fuel mileage). It does not protect as well as 30 weight.

I used 5W-30 because I was used to my friend's 2000 Mustang in which the recommended oil was 5W-30. I thought that this recommendation of oil usage was carried over to 2001 (which is my model), so I had synthetic 5W-30 put in. I just recently saw in my manual that the recommended viscocity of oil was 5W-20.

I thought you ment you did it on a regular basis. The numbers represent the fluid viscosity (or resistance to flow). I dont remember specifics, but a small difference (like using 5w30 insead of the recomended 5w20) wont make a difference. I would just make sure you get 5w20 from now on, no big deal.

I thought most of the 4.6's were 6 quarts. The oil pressure gauge is a joke. It is setup to register in one position and doesn't move whether the oil pressure is high or low.

5.5 and some change of mobil 1 synthetic in my '04 GT. I think they made the dipstick that way because they had a habit of breaking off sometimes

I hear it is the best... or at least, one of the best. I was going to use RP durring my last oil change but Pep-Boys wasnt stocking it, so i stuck with my Mobil 1. I dont think you can go wrong with either one.
