4.6 help

You will probably end up about 10-15hp more than a PI motor.(260 crank hp) Maybe more depending on if you have any supporting mods done.(cams, headers, etc...)

It is a pretty complex job. Not undoable, but involved. If you aren't real car savvy, I wouldn't recommend you do this yourself.

Parts shouldn't be too expensive. I would check eBay and the classifieds on this site. Labor for the install would be expensive.

Actually we have seen over 50 HP with the PI head and intake interchange!! IT is the future on the SOHC 4.6!! IF you have a good manual, and mechincal knowhow, dont let all those chains fool you!! it is a easy process... IF you follow the mauals!!!! IT is easyer with the engine out... but WAY doable with it in the framerails... cool??

he's saying 15 more than a stock pi engine which is already 260, so it's be like around 55 total. The process is long and not that fun, but do-able. You could always pay someone to help you do it together. The parts' price is something the varies A LOT. there are a couple of places that sell the whole kit new, but you can save a lot by buying used - although that comes with some risk in itself:

there are a couple of write ups that are very good, that include a parts list. I would get a set of heads and intake, then talk to Randy Stinchcomb at Parkway Ford, he will get you set up with the gaskets, bolts, heater tube, etc.

JMO here, Ill elaborate. Never, ever buy used auto parts on ebay, or other forums. You are taking a big gamble. I always buy my used heads from Car-part.com. It is an online database for salvage yards across America. The thing is, most of these parts are checked, and any damaged part on the item is listed in the information box. You know what you are getting when you buy it, and most salvage yards will give you a 30 day warranty if you feel the need to have a machinist check it after you recieve it. Your more likely to come out with a good set of heads bc the majority of their sales are to other salvage yards, and not indivuals, and they cant afford to screw over other salvage yards for reputation sake. Ive done 2 headswaps on my cars, and 4 others for freinds cars, and never had a single issue. Good luck

Your going to gain quite a bit of horse. I am saying this because I have a 98 F-150 the year before Ford introduced the PI heads. I have the 98 4.6L without PI heads and its 220 Horse at the crank.

Then, my 99 Mustang, with PI heads is 260 Horse at the crank.
