Whoever owned me before beat the living crap out of my car, was fine when I bought her but now 10K miles later I am needing to rebuild my bottom end... the car only has 50K on it... was thinking about pulling a 5.4L out of a wrecked Excursion or something and doing a motor swap, has anyone reading this done it before? All you true gear heads out there, I am on a tight budget so if I did a rebuild I would prob not have the money to do it the way the car deserves... I would prob just replace the pistons, rings, and etc but just machine and balance my stock crankshaft and rods. Any suggestions about this? Constructive opinions are welcome as well but please have in mind I am pretty broke and cant sink a bunch of money into it... Thanks ya'll for any help and suggestion!

If you're on a tight budget then forget about the 5.4 swap. Way too much extra expense involved. You can do a rebuild with the stock crank but you really need to replace the rods and pistons and the block will need some machine work. Watch the classifieds on the various Mustang forums and you can pick up a good set of rods for a reasonable price. Have the block checked by a good machine shop and see if it needs to be bored before you get your pistons.

Why not even save yourself the trouble of rod pistons and machining and just buy an Aluminator. I agree too the 5.4L is a waste

If you did do the swap you'd have to pick up the controller pack for around 1500 dollars. So if you could do the work yourself you'd probably just be better off rebuilding what you've got. Unless you happen to come across a really good deal on an aluminator like SpartaPerformance suggested.
