so im checking out some SVO forums and i noticed that they are ohc, i've always known that but for some reason a thought jus popped in my head.

Did ford REALLY design and engineer an "all new" engine when the came out with the mod 4.6, or did they jus put two 2.3L four-bangers together

2.3L X 2 = 4.6L but it seems so obvious.
1992 mustang 2.3l 105hp
1992 crown vic 4.6l 210hp

jus pondering out loud......

Hence why it's called a 'modular block'

Keep adding on....

What's the bore/stroke on the 2.3L? I'm pretty sure the 4.6L is 3.5"/3.5"

I jokingly thought about that a long time ago, I never really looked into it.

The term 'modular' comes from the tooling that makes the engines, not the engine itself.

i made a joke about that with a friend of mine once, Told him to take 1 header off a 4.6 gt and put it on his 2.3 and he will have header for his exhaust. Never tryd it but was funny. We were able to use the CAI off a 4.6 to put on his escort though, lol

You guys may be on to something though... So its not exact match..Its within what the engineers may have derived.

I don't think so... BUT, the 6.8 V10 is just a 5.4 with an additional cylinder on each bank..
