4 cyl dual exaust

I might do it on the new (93 LX 4 Cyl) i have some used Flowmaster 40 series, and i was thinking of running the y pipe straight to the flowmasters and nothing else, not even tailpipes ( well maybe in the future, when i have the $). Pls tell me if i will actually lose power (little it has can't afford to) also what size y pipe can i use ? and if i can find it in a junk yard from what car?. Please post ideas and comments

You'd honestly be better off with the tailipipes. You'll loose alot of torque without the tails and I don't think it will sound good at all. I used a y-pipe from a Thunderbird with stock duals or you can get them from an SVO. They aren't hard to come by really. If you have the mufflers, get a y-pipe and if you're interested I can hook you up with tails. I am selling a 2 1/4 in. set really cheap. what kind of y pipe

where can i find a y pipe for the 2.25 inch flowmasters ?
What car can i swap it from, i may go get it at a junk yard
for the 93 lx

I did the duals on mine, and from my own personal experience, I think you'll have a hard time finding a decent Y-pipe in the JY. Any decent exhaust shop should be able to custom build you one for pretty cheap. That's how I did mine, just make sure you show them a pic of the SVO pipe or they'll make it like mine and all the exhaust will still come out one side. I have to take my car back and get them to make me a new Y-pipe, but I can post a pic of the first one they made me when i get home (I'm at school now, no pics ) And definitely use straight pipes, tailpipes are what make a Mustang, plus you can get them for pretty cheap.

The only thing tht comes to my mind is, "Just 4 Looks." Ok I should rephrase that, "Just 4 noise, or my favorite, " Just to waste HP." I forgot my least favorite one, " Just to waste money."

And looks is what it usually gets. I get alot of looks/stares from people. Wasted hp? Nope, my car picks up and goes much better than the stock single pipe exhaust.

There has been plenty of talk about this with 86' SVO owners since there cars came with a "Y" and duel mufflers. (Look it up on SVOCA) The duel muffler system on a 2.3L(T) is restrictive compared to a good single exhaust. I'm sure you gained some power because of that cloged converter/muffler, but its nothing compared to a single exhaust on a 2.3L(T). Run a pole and see who has improved hp using duels compared to singles.

What does looks gets you

Crap everyone knows its the ugly cars you got to watch out for, because they put all there money under the hood. When people stares at your car its people like me saying, WTF !!! In general most people can't aford to go fast and look good at the same time, and you wait tell you see that chick who thought your car was fast, takes off with a guy like me cause is car looks like crap but kicks butt and takes names.

Cheaper, easier, less weight (which helps go faster), etc. to go to good single. Duels on a 4cyl serve little purpose other than to make the guy that just kicked your butt think he beat a V8.

If you don't race, got deeper pockets than me, and the look is what you're after than "fill your boots".

I lost a little low-end torque when I had my exhaust done, but I picked up some top-end. I don't race, so I don't care about that, and I like the way it looks and sounds infinitely better than the stock limp-dick tailpipe. I don't regret doing it at all.

We need a "werd" smiley. The looks and the sound was what I was going for, and that's what I got. Of course if I wanted to go faster I would have done things differently.

Ash' the Man...Dude you don't have to lie to make friends All guys race its in our nature to do so Heck I wondering if its in girls nature to race as well judgeing by all the HotRod girls I see now days, which I might add is a turn on

As for the limp-dick exhaust pipe crap you should see my tail pipe its not limp but looks weird being all a lone. Its hard for me to do it that way but I know its best on a inline motor like the 2.3L(T)s

Okay, I've raced, but only as a joke. I can't beat anything on the road that will race me, so I don't even bother. Not even gonna get into the motor, I'm saving that money for chassis buildup and then turbo sweetness.

I'm the same way with my LX, crap its a lot of fun sometimes Just think our cars looks like a 5.0 with the ponys on and when you loose to someone they get a big head and think they beat a V8. Well the next guy the race may have a V8 and they'll be talking smack and look like a butt when they loose

The other night I was trying to get this 95' V8 T-Bird to race this older type Eclipes by reving it up and flooring when the light tuned green. It was really funny the T-bird was the only one to go and he barely was moving. I couldn't figure out if he was joking around or was afaid I was a 5.0

Do u know where i can find a picture of the y pipe for a SVO?? if so it probably has to be dtailed enough so they acually know what they're doing, Here in Miami welders suck ass !

If you want to be that thick about it, drive down to you local muffler shop and ask them about a "Y" pipe. The muffler shops here sells one for 50.00. Now before you make the swap make sure nothing will be in the way like brake lines and fuel pumps etc. I read some where about fuels pumps on my car that I have to relocate one of mine if I used duels. I'm sure you want have to but there is a brake line that needs moving.

** Do not buy a Cat or Mufflers from the muffler guys. Buy them through Jegs or Ebay its cheaper. Just a F.Y.I **

The general consensus seems to be that there is NO noticeable difference in power between a dual and single exhaust on a 2.3T. Having duals looks better to most people, and it also gives you extra clearance because of the smaller diameter pipe, which is important if the car is lowered.

I'm sure there isn't much if not any noticable power gains, I really wasn't talking noticable gains. I'm pretty sure a duel system on a 2.3L(T) will have a hair more back pressure than a bigger singer system would have. This extra back pressure could cause a HP difference of 1-3 hp which in my book is to much for me to loose I shoot for the more efficient ways of produceing Hp even if its only a few non noticable Hp gains.

Simply put Hawk's Philosophy is this: "I would Rather drive a ugly fast car than a nice looking slow car."

.....every 30lbs or so you add to the car equates to loosing about 1hp. That in mind, if you pick up 3hp by upgrading from stock to duels but added 30+lbs (extra pipe, hangers mufflers, etc.) in the process............anyways, one might consider just hanging dumby tailpipes from the rear bumpers.

I'm scepticle about how much effect a larger (than stock) single would have on lowering the car compared to duels as you have the mufflers to content with either way, but then I believe 2"-2.5" pipe to be quite sufficiant for the stock 2.3 and wouldn't think of using 4" stove pipe either (there must be a point of diminishing returns for your $$$).

BTW. This is not to offend those that like duels (or stove pipe) but to point out what to consider for those that are trying to figger out which way they want to go.
