ok then maybe im excessive with 80 on start up and 60 at idle and back to 80 at over 2000 rpms and im supposed to have a stock pump well maybe high volume but not high pressure i msure of that. yeah 7 for chevy seems right i know a lot of sb chevys that run 7 at idle and i worry for them.
Clevelands also have a tendency of low oil pressure at idle. I've run both a HV pump and a stock pump in my 302 , and both had high pressure at ldle. About 40 psi hot for both. The HV pump would build to 80-90 cold at idle, the stock goes to 60-70 cold. Neither has had bearing or seal failures. If I had an engine that had 10 psi at idle, I'd worry, no matter what the big boys say. The 400 I just sold did this at idle, and it bugged the out of me. Every FE I've had had at least 40 psi at idle hot and I only had one bearing failure, and this was due to not enough oil in the pan. Spun a rod bearing. The low oil came about from the use of a 428CJ windage tray, the dipstick has a habit of overriding the tray, I've since learned to check the dipstick fit when using the CJ tray.
do you have to bleed out the air that is in the line that goes to the guage(somewhat similar to bleeding your brake lines) to get an accurate reading, or is it ok to just hook it up and go. Because if you think about it that line has air in it and when the oil starts to travel up the tube, and the oil will compress the air that is already in the line. Oil cannot be compressed like air can, so my question is can this give you a false reason or am i just worrying too much
You can bleed that air till the cows come home and the reading will still be accurate. I've bled the air ( or tried to) and the gauge still read the same. And after bleeding, the air bubbles reapeared.
