5.0 Clutch Quadrant...Stock vs. Aluminum

I am about to change my clutch and figure it's a good time for a new cable as well. I have heard the smart thing to do is get an aluminum quadrant to replace the plastic one. Question is this...The plastic one seems to be a 2 piece part while the aluminum one seems to be a one piece part. Does this mean the stock replacement cable won't work with the aluminum clutch quadrant???

the aftermarket quadrants have hooks and the stock cable will work but id rec getting a firewall adjuster. blah the stock quadrants suck, when i pulled mine out the teeth were all ground down.

The teeth being worn down is my biggest concern.

If the new quadrant has a hook but no teeth, how does the cable get adjusted?

well i got one with 3 hooks and you can do it like that and then dial it in with the firewall adjuster

Stock quadrant is a plastic P.O.S.! Get the kit with the firewall adjuster and you will love it. You will NOT love replacing it, but it is well worth the tedium and irritation when you are done. I can personally recommend the Steeda unit, it is definitely a piece you will only have to install once. I have read of others breaking aftermarket cables, but Steeda advertises aircraft grade cable with 10,000 lb tensile strength. Theirs is also in a teflon-lined sleeve so friction is pretty much zip. After removing my original cable and feeling how hard it was to pull through all the gunk built up in the sleeve I was glad I had elected to replace it!

Do not get the plastic one, I remember me and my cousin were at a stoplight when he had his 87 GT, and we could not move because the clutch was not funtioning right, I figure it was not disengaging?? But yeah, anyways your best bet is the firewall adjuster.

Whatever you get, get all the pieces from the same manufacturer. That way they all work together and fit together without a lot of argument and fuss.

Stock piece is plastic and is a POS. Get an aftermarket billet steel or aluminum one and be done with it. You adjust on the quadrant by selecting which position to connect the cable (my steeda has 3 positions). Plus, if you get the kit, there is a nice firewall adjuster that you just screw in or unscrew to adjust.

my personal opinion, I like the single hook quadrants the best. There is no use for the multiple hook quadrants. I've been buying them for years, then finally figured I've never had to use any of the other hooks. Pretty much, they're overdesigned. My favorite companies are mm, I like the ford racing quadrant, and the fiore setup has the best firewall adjuster available on the market with a good single hook quadrant.

Afrtmrkt all the way, when my stock plastic teeth stripped I got a used stock plastic quadrant and it would not install, being 2 pieces and all it was impossible to install so aftrmrkt was the only option once it was out. Anybody ever take out their stock plastic quadrant then try putting it back in? Only way I could see it being done is if the whole dash comes out.
