I am putting a new 5.0 HO crate engine in my 67 coupe, replacing a 289. The one part I don't have a clear idea of is the distributor. I am looking for an electronic setup for reliability and low maintenance. Reasonable cost for the parts and simple installation are also goals. I know I need the steel gear.

Pertronix has a "plug and play" setup. Will this work with the matching coil?

Searching has suggested a '85 GT with manual trans for a steel gear equipped Duraspark. What else is needed to install this one?

Other options?

Thanks

All you need is a GM HEI module and some wire if you want to use a Duraspark the simple way. Get an official Duraspark module otherwise. Be warned, though, that you'll probably have a hard time getting the steel geared distributor(even if its in the right package). Alot of parts stores, at least around here, get them mixed up with the iron-geared units if they have them at all.

A distributor similar to this but "non blueprinted" has worked well for me in the past. It was only 100-125 from summit. Though I cannot find it on their site right now.

There is a guy on ebay that sells them for around the same price (100-125) as well.
