I'd like to get together a comprehensive list of what is actually necessary to do the swap. By that, I mean what is actually needed, not "what can you add on to the project to make it cost an extra $1,000". :p

Anyone who has spent any time on the vendor sites such as:
http://www.windsor-fox.com/ will recognize the multitude of extra stuff that no one ever mentions when discussing how they did their swap. For instance, HEGO relay $40, smog pump idler pulley $97, Fuel Pump Bracket $291, etc...

Whatcha think?

I think the Mustangs Plus EFI rendition is about as cheap as one can get, at least Ive never read anything cheaper. They dont include pricing in that article but with the BIG ASSUMPTION that you can get around buying the "Ron Morris Wiring Harness" for ~$800.00 (cough), and can solder a return line, thats prob about $500 all told, if you use good used injectors, etc. Your biggest expense would be the fuel pump, inertia switch, and O2 sensors.

But Im not a EFI guru so I dont know directly.

Here is what I have done so far and the list for the swap. I also am adding the AOD.

2. Used radiator w/ stagard in/out (86 mustang $40)
3. Fuse block and engine compartment relay block (89 Mark 8 $15)
4. 92 Taurus electric fan ($20)

8. Aerostar Aluminum driveshaft (90 2wd $20 + $40 to shorten)
9. Electric fuel pump from BMW 7 series (almost brand new $15)
10. Flex fuel lines for EFI (too much $)- Using drain plug hole with AN6 90 for the return line

12. Headman headers (New)-Thanks Fostang
13. 2 1/2 exhaust with ORX pipe and 50's Flowmasters (on order $300 installed)
14. O2 Sensors new from Ford Dealer ($40 too much), welding in a nut to fit sensor
15. Deleted pump and A/C and will use shorter belt. No pullies.
16. Just got a 3G alternator (from a wrecked 2001 Crown Vic $30)
17. Fuel pump relay and inertia switch from (91 Mustang $10)
18. Will need new radiator hoses, vacume lines, various screws, etc. ($40)
19. Winsor-Fox shock tower brace (ordering in two weeks)
20. Winsor-Fox cross member (just got it)
21. Fabricated/welded a drivers side battery punch-out like original on the passenger side ($5 for the sheet metal)

23. New gas tank, the old one has holes ($120)
24. Adjustable fuel pressure regulator. Not needed but free.
25. New '68 302 motor mounts ($30)
26. Cold air intake and K&N $50 used(could have used the 91 box, but low volume)
27. 4 cases of beers and a few bottles of the good stuff. (Friend's work fee $300)
28. I sure I will find more before I am done in April. (???? $$$)
29. And then there is the stuff to keep it on the road and look good parts, FULL suspension upgrade, 17x8 AC III's, Cobra Automotive R model front end, LeCarra Steering wheel, 91 GT seats, Auto Meter gauges, Granada Disc Brake swap, 67 Shelby hood, NEW PAINT!!!!!

30. Two gallons of Heavy Duty patience.

Awesome!

That is exactly the kind of info I'm looking for. Not only have you listed the things you need for the swap, but it is readily apparent what it is that you don't need. Thank you so much!

I probably needed 3 gallons of #30. 68conv. has quite a list. Way better than I can do. His list is a great example of why you should try to get as much as possible off a donor if thats the route you go. Gas pedal, alternator, sensors, anything you can grab. Depending on how worn the engine is, most people will want to add tune up stuff (sparkplugs, cap, rotor, plug wires, etc).

One last thing I just discovered. I was messing around with the valve covers in prep to take the cam out and the nuts were loose. I had not planned on doing anything until I got the engine in but... When I pulled the covers off, Loe and behold, roller rockers. FMS Blue ones! 1.6 I think? Hope that translates into an aftermarket cam as well. I will keep you posted.

I also forgot to add #31 Trans cooler lines (not yet purchased, ?$)
