Hey, maybe I'm way behind, but did anybody notice "5.0 Talk/Tech" is now "Fox 5.0 Talk/Tech"? I think it's a good compromise with the new 2011 5.0 coming out. Thoughts?

Noticed it now that you mention it. Not a surprise really. I'm sure once the '11 gets here everything "5.0" ever spoken will be related to them and the people buying them will act like they reinvented the wheel.

Eh, I'm really not worried about the "5.0" thing getting stolen from us. I think it will turn into the "new 5.0" and the "old 5.0".

Besides, I have no loyalty or even sentiment for the 5.0 engine. I'm just counting the days until I have something bigger under the hood, and once I do, you can bet those 5.0 badges will be in the garbage. Really, I'd rather our cars be known as "Fox Mustangs" instead of "5.0 Mustangs", though that is what pop culture knows them as.

i think the term fox is gonna be just as played out as 5.0 in the future, especially the whole "fox rod" thing, i think that sounds retarded

I don't mind the Fox Rod thing toooooo much, but I'm still not sure what qualifies as a Fox Rod and what doesn't.

Made the change earlier today to both the legacy 5.0 and 4.6 forums. Been a while coming and finally pulled the trigger.

They should have made the new 5.0 a 5.4 and been done with it. Leave the 5.0 badges and 5.0 legacy to the fox body. The good ole fox body that we all wanted when we were 10, 11, 12, 13 years old.

Meh... Will the REAL 5oh please stand up?

Personally, I think the 5oh section should have stayed just 5.0. All the 2011 stuff should be NEW 5.0 or 5.0 2011 or whatever.

I like what they've done to achieve the new motor but it's not paid it's dues to be able horn in on what's become THE 5oh. It's not just an engine size... it's the Title earned by an era!

I have to disagree, fellas. It's just an engine displacement, and would never have been a big deal if it weren't for those shiny badges. What if Ford would have decided to put "302" on the side instead of the "5.0"? The 2011 deserves to be called a 5.0 just as much as our cars do.

That's just it though... whether it was displacement, or the shiney badges... the NAME 5oh ended up taking on a life of it's own. When you say, "5oh" EVERYONE knows what you're talking about. Even the ricers. Nobody thinks about any other 302 cubic inch motor ever made.

Granted, that in the next few years, the torch will have been officially passed. I've no doubt that the new motor will become the force to be reckoned with that our beloved 5oh has been. I just think it should have evolved it's "own" personality instead of dining on the one made famous by another era.

If my name had been William Hickok, should I go around calling myself Wild Bill?

I'm not overly stressed about the whole thing... just seems... incorrect, is all.

But I agree, the name "Five-O" is more than just an engine size; it describes a whole era the Mustang. Regardless of whether it was the shiny badges or not, people still associate the name with the Fox Mustang.

On a personal level it really doesn't matter to me either way but I agree with this point. Just the other day it dawned on me that you can no longer say "5.0" and have people immediately know what you're talking about. It's such a small thing but I liked having that distinction over the years. Now it'll be like, "The new one or the old one?" That said, I'm very excited about the new 5.0 and have every intention of adding one to my little stable. "Now, now boys. Play nice with the newcomer. He's no pushover"

I'm with you man. A 5.0 is always going to be a fox body to me, and all my friends. One thing that everybody seems to forget is that Ford engineers called the 2011 block the Coyote. That's what I call it. Or maybe the aftermarket will come up with something new for it, I don't know for sure. But to me, and I think to the majority of the people associated with our cars, a 5.0 is going to be a fox.

But as for them naming it as such, that's what car companies have to do to make the sale. They have to remind you of the past, toy with your imagination, but try to improve it's stock form. The Coyote block is fantastic and the power potential is amazing, even in stock form. I just hope it's known more as the new SS Camaro or SRT-8 Challenger killer, rather than the street/strip killer we all enjoy. I think that wouldn't be too bad.

Haha, man I think you guys are nuts. Nobody named the Coyote "5.0", it is just 5L of displacement. Same for the pushrod engine. It is what it is.
