im looking at trading my 98 s10 for a 92 5.0 stang. the seller of the stang says he dont feel right trading me becouse the stang is too powerful. says it has a 306ci msd ign hi-po cam and a 750cfm holley. also it is a 5spd with 4:11 gears. i dont think that makes it undriveable??????? at most wouldnt changing the gearin to say 3:73 help?

He may be signaling that after you buy it you
will not be able to register it and pass inspection.

are you young? maybe he thinks you will get hurt in it?

maybe he just doesn't want to trade for an s10?

or maybe it doesn't run right which makes it hard to drive?

You can buy 4-door family sedans with more power than that these days

I love how every Mustang for sale these days has a "306"

Around here it's "a 306 with a small cam"

Like said above, you can get in a minivan that has more than 225hp. The key is just don't drive like an idiot.

4:11 gears will make it hard to drive in town. spinning at red lights gets old. I would not buy it. no idea what is wrong with it. I would research engine building and build my own. EFI > Carburated If you do your home work EFI is cheaper than Carb setup and more traffic friendly

your only gonna spin at every red light if you want to or can't drive, my roommate has a 99 with 4:10s and a vortech, i could drive it around town all day no problem

Probably will be moved to 5.0 Talk soon...

A few things could be going on...

- Trying to "upsale" the car by saying how powerful it is.
- Trying to keep it safe.
- Trying to swindle you.

4.11 is a GM gear. A 306 is just a rebuild, nothing more, nothing less.

It is slow, I promise.

The car sounds like a mess anyway. There's no reason to convert a '92 stock motor car to carb. I'm guessing it's a complete hack-job. Just sounds real fishy to me, but I'm very picky when I buy stuff so maybe it's just me.

Maybe the car was a 4 cyl and they didn't or couldn't find the v8 engine harness.

DONT GIVE HIM IDEAS
I have spent so much time fixing previous owners crap jobs
the guy is probably trying to reel you in with thoughts of power
you may want somthing more... "tame" for the streets
efi ftw in this case
sometimes it is not as easy as "can always fix it" due to it being your daily driver
I learned that lesson the hard way, always get a reliable car first, plus It is more fun to build it yourself.
but the idea of trading a s10 for a 306 stang makes me wet

thats what happened when i bought mine, come to find out the rebuilt engine with "forged rods and pistons" had stock rods and hyperutectic pistons

found that out after shaking pieces of them out of my flowmasters lol

i am still chasing down little problems left and right that were not done right
