is the bell housing on a t5 different on a 1986 3.8l as on a 5.0l?

No, all T5's are alike, except I have found out the newer 3.8's such as my 1996, has a different length input shaft on the tranny. I can't remember if it was longer or shorter. Those are usually the only difference, aside for the slightly different gearing ratio. Bellhousings are all the same though. A T5 .. is a T5.. everything typically fits each other except for the shaft lengths. And it is possible to remove the input shaft and put the correct sized one in, but I'm not sure how to do that. I know there are a few people here with that knowledge.
