I am thinking through the alternative on holding the output of the 351W. I have swapped and run about 350 ft-lbs thru the tranny. I plan to add n2o however and need to obviously signifcantly upgrade the tranny. The n2o should bring it up to 450 peak hp I estimate, and about 400 lbs ft peak (but who wants to stop there!!!?).

I was approached by my speedshop about doing a World Class T-5 refit, but I think that is asking for trouble and probably won't hold up long to the beating.

Up from that in capacity would be the Tremec Cobra-R tranny. What is needed to fit this sucker in there? Cheaper than the TKO overall??? Or another ticking timebomb?

TKO is the ultimate I guess.

Thanks for any help!

TKO500/600 all the way. If not that, a T56 will do the job too. Geforce T5 is another option with minimal ammount of parts swapping but kind of expensive for not getting a new trans IMO.

There r plenty of guys running stock T5's pushing 450-500rwhp. the trick is do not do 4000rpm launches, no slicks, no SPEC clutches, and no power shifting. If u want to any of the above don't's then go TKO 600.

Heh heh heh... poor T-5...

I am running slicks and traction bars to the drivetrain. The Tremec 3550 (Cobra R) trans would fit with little work right? (No trans mount, change of shaft? Change of clutch even?) 3.27 gears though - WILL SWITCH TO 3.73 ASAP!
About $2250 installed?

The TKO's just seem like a major outlay, and I will have my shop install it.... so by the time all is done the TKO will run close to $3500 installed if all is lubed right.

You'll only be shifting the weak point to the 28 spline axles and rear end.

Don't forget that you won't want to accelerate to quickly in 3rd gear either...espicially under any type of load.

For all the TKO series you will have to at least modify your stock crossmember. Some people have been able to simply install it backwards and make it work. I believe all said and done my TKO600 put me back 2500 to my door. I did the install myself because my labor is really cheap. hehe.

I would go with a TKO personally. Daggar makes a good point about finding the other weak points of your drive train after you do a swap to a stronger tranny. Thats life though when you start to add power to these cars. So far my world class t-5 has held up to my 351w but when this one blows up i'll be upgrading to a tko 600. I am tired of installing t-5's.
