Alright all you Saleen GURU'S everyone told me the Saleen Series II had issues with blowing motors and I thought naaaahhh couldnt be. But last night the #3 cylinder went dead after a quick oh say 5-6 second WOT jaunt on the freeway. Pulled the plug this morning and it's oiled with oil in the intake as well so it definitly holed the piston. Can someone ANYONE with real experience tell me how to build this thing so it wont do this again! I just plain ol' cant afford this!
Here's the current setup:
2000 4.6 2v
Saleen Series II
Saleen Flash
Chicane 66mm Pulley
SVT Focus Fuel pump

Sorry to hear. If you want to go fast, occasionally this is the price we pay.
At this point, if you love your car and plan on keeping it, start from scratch and do it right. There are plenty of threads around and lot of different combos.
Depending on your location and skill you could always yank your motor and send out, the short or long block. Just go forged on the bottom and if the combo is set up correctly you will be making pounds and pounds of boost for days without worrying about your motor. Just make sure your tune is conservative on pump gas and you will have happy motoring.
Chicane Sport Tuning
Modular Powerhouse

I'm sorry to hear about your motor. If I had to guess I would say you pegged the mass air or had issues with the saleen flash. The elevation probably didn't help either.
I'm looking into building the motor as well. There is a forged kit on ebay for $1400 and than you can have a local shop install the forged rods, pistons, crank etc. This is the lowest priced, complete motor option I have seen and will run you around $3K to do the entire job.
Good Luck

Disregard other post looks like you lunched a piston.

Check ebay for 2V 4.6 for sale.

How is this motor, internally, different then yours. This is motor and tranny from a 2000 GT for under $2000. You'll spend way more then that rebuilding yours.

Yes he proabably burned a piston due to detonation which was caused from tuning issues. (maf or just saleen related)

Why would he want to buy a motor with 56K miles on it and be no better, probably worse than he was before? Spending another $1K on top of that old motor he could have a built/forged motor.

Right.

OK I found a forged shortblock for 1999.00 from DSSRacing. Does anyone know anything about these guys? This sounds like a pretty good price. Now on the flash how in the world can I check this?? What if Saleen flashed it to a S281 non SC instead of the SC?? Is there anything I can do?

Heard mosty good things about DSS. I heard the guy does stand behind his work. Make sure you look into what Modular Powerhouse has to offer in a short block also.

At this point, forget about your Saleen Powerflash. It's time to get serious about your tune. There are plenty of different offerings. DSS or MPH should be able to tell you of a good dyno tuner in Utah. Also, Whosdady is right on about you being at altitude. There are different variables than at sea level.

You are on track to make some nice power. How many pounds of boost were you running before? I know the guys are telling you to chuck that Saleen blower for a KB. If you can afford it, it is only logical. If not the lousy Saleen Eaton is still good for 12 lbs of boost, but above that it is futile. You can still put together a nice new bottom end and upgrade af ew other items on the way up to the top of your new motor again without replacing the blower at this time. Once you have a high-boost-blower-friendly bottom end you can ad that Kenne Bell at any time.
