does any one know if the 5r55 trans in a v6 the sasme as a 5r55 in a v8 . is it the same housing. can you put ts in the v6 housing if any one has any info please let me know any and all info will be greatly appreciated.
I have some questions about this transmission (2005 GT). I quickly noticed it doesn't have a dipstick! Are these transmissions holding up well? How well do they handle extra power? The owner's manual recommended no fluid changes? Is the transmission in my 2006 Ranger 4WD 4.0 similar? The Ranger has a dipstick - other differences?
1: The 4.6L V-8 and the 4.0L V6 have different bellhousing patterns so they wont bolt up.
2: You can change the fluid in the 5r55 but you have to pull the pan off, there is a fill hole on the case
3: 2006 Ranger I believe had a 4r70W not a 5r55

Ahhh Rangers with 4.0L good deal. The 5r55S is pretty stout however it's the tune that kills it. I haven't read the articles that you have linked to but hopefully they explain that its a dual motion trans, in other words most auto's something gets released and something gets engaged to shift gears this particular trans to go from 3-4 or 4-5 it engages and releases multiple parts and if that is mistuned in the slightest it will tear itself apart. So be careful who you choose to tune, also there are parts such as deeper pans and bigger coolers to add to the strength of this unit.
