Ok here's the deal, I have a 65 that pretty much just sits in my garage which I start and let it run or even drive a few times a year. Last year I had to replace the fuel pump because the car wouldn't start and that solved my problem. Well the car hasn't been started for about 4 months and now it won't start, I took the fuel line off of the carb and cranked the motor no fuel came out. I tried pouring fuel into the carb and the car will run for a few seconds but won't keep running so at least I know that there is spark, just no fuel.

My question is: Can the fuel pump go bad from the car just sitting too long w/o being started or is there something else that would prevent fuel from getting to the carb? I checked the fuel lines near the pump for pinches but everything looks fine.

Well it turns out that it was the fuel pump, I'm not sure why it was bad, it was less than two years old. I replaced it with a NAPA one and it appears to be much better quality than the one that I had on there but it was a little pricey.

That's abnormally soon for failure. The diaphragm must have been defective from the manufacturing process. It's possible it was a result of one of the new gasoline blends (ethanol) that prematurely destroyed the diphragm.

Thanks, I'm not sure if California uses ethanol or not in out "winter gas" like other states. Could bad gas (old gas that has been sitting too long) cause a fuel pump failure?

I think California was the first to use ethanol in the gas. they have stickers on the pumps saying up to 10% is ethanol.

You are right, my bad... So I guess that Cali has crappy gas all year round where other states only have it for a few months out of the year.
