66 coupe rearend...

im going to pick up my newly acquired 66 coupe this coming weekend and was wondering what rearend its got... it is not a gt, but originally had a 289 in it before, auto tranny... any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

its an 8" rear (if its stock), or are you talking bout the gears? if you want the gear ratio, you'll have to use the VIN number and decode it

If it is a 289 hi-po it would have a 9". Odds are it's an 8" though.

he said its not a GT though, and the only way you could get a hi-po is if you got the GT package as well correct?

Nope....I saw a non-GT 66 HiPo coupe when I went to pick up my 5.0 shortblock. It was more expensive w/o GT package thogh.

If the differential looks oval, its 8". If it looks round, its 9". Check VIN for gearing....Axle ratio.
