66 coupe turn signal switch

I'm at my wit's end trying to figure this out and I really need some help. I put in a painless rewire(20120) in the car and I am connecting the 2 harnesses (2 wire and 6 wire) to the male counterparts on the steering column.When I put the car in start,and turn the directional lever(up or down)-I get a quick blown fuse in the painless turn signal fuse. I change the turn signal to a ford part(C50Z-13341-B) and the same happens. I place a short finder in the fuse that is being blown-I feel the hazard relay and some of the wires going up the steering wheel very hot.I thought maybe when I reused the male herness and put in the 6 pins from the steering column-I may have switched a location of one pin-I don't know?Does any one know the order that the wires are placed in the 6 wire connector or yet does anyone know how I can test the turn signal switch(and all the wires in the 6 wire connector) for continuity with a volt-meter.All lights work on the car,even the brake lights.Any insight will be greatly appreciated because I cannot pull out many more hairs on my half-bald scalp!

Hey, I had a similar ordeal doing my harness again, i used ez wiring though. To use a volt- meter to check continuity i'd say get a small battery, connect the wire in question with the + lead of the battery, flick the switch, then connect the red lead from the volt-meter to the other side of the wire in question and the black, ground wire to the - terminal of the battery.

If you have a 65 or 66 this is the column stuff:
There are numbers stamped on the old connectors, i also provided the colors though.

#1 place with the white and blue wires connects to Right front signal and Signal indicator

#2 was originally yellow connects to Horn switch

#3 originally green and blue connects to left signal indicator and left front signal

#4 originally green connects to third brake and brake switch

#5 originally blue and yellow connects to the wire going out to the horns in front

#6 originally blue connects to turn signal flasher

The other two connector one connect to
Originally Orange-blue connects to the right rear turn signal

Originally green-orange connects to the left rear turn signal

Here is the diagram for you; the top is the right side and bottom is the left side.

no #'s on connector

Suki243-there are no numbers stamped on the connector. Do you have a picture or diagram or can you desribe the location of the #s?

umm, I can try finding the old connectors for you, and taking a picture. But I'd suggest using the wire coloring that i stated to do it as well. The numbers were stamped in the inside of the connectors, you'd need some type of light to be able to see the shadows of the numbers.
