I am fairly new to the auto industry and am wanting to get my hands into something. I found this for $900 and am curious if
1) it is a good buy for the price
2) would it be too much to handle for a new guy
I do have the patience and time and it doesn't look scary to me, but I wanted another opinion. The motor runs but the brakes are shot. The 1 thing that I am slightly worried about is the rear quarter panels having some rust holes. Thank you for any input!

Sorry, but that car is not worth the money to tow it. Rust has claimed every square inch of that poor pony.

Better off spending a little more for a body thats intact and not as much rust. That stang would cost you more to repair than it would be worth when finished. Keep searching, plenty more stangs out there that will need less work.

Agreed. The time and money you are going to have to put into this car will be better spent starting out with a better project. If you spend the extra money for a better body now, you'll save yourself time, money, heartache, and good ole' elbow juice.....

I also agree that this would be an uphill battle as a restoration project. Did anyone notice that the car appears to have 5-lug wheels? (a '66 with a 6-cyl should have 4-lugs). Makes you wonder about the car's history...

Looks like a V8 car, see the 289 emblem holes in the fenders? I'd try to talk them waaaay down and go for it. It's pretty far gone, but it's a saveable V8 car, so if its cheap enough, heck at the worst, it'd make a great donor car for a nice I6 car!

alright, thank you all for the opinions, you guys talked me into a complete 180. I do live in kentucky so I doubt I'm going to find a 100% rust free car, but this one prolly isn't the best to start with. It is a inline 6 modded way back for ralley racing I was told. A 289(?) engine was an option with the car + free towing. The owner wasn't certain wether it was a '65 or '66 seeing as there is no title but was pretty sure it was a 66

Check this one out, it's about the same price and looks to be in better shape. I would check it out completely before I bought it. But if all checks out well, then buy and start on your new project. Maybe this isn't the one but it lets you know whats out there and that you don't have to find something local.

"....Rebuilt open 8 inch rear, 3.73 gears...." It looks like it's got 4 lug wheels all round. Did any 8" diffs have 4 lugs?

Did anyone notice in one of the pictures the VIN number was drilled out?

Stay away!
