in 67, "65B" was used to designate "Luxury Hardtop"; In 68 it was the same designator, but called a "Deluxe Hardtop" (non-bench seats)

What exactly made them "luxury" and "deluxe"? Was it the vinyl roof and deluxe interior?

That means the deluxe interior. The vinyl roof was an option, and I don't think the body code(65A, 65B, etc) associated the option of having a vinyl roof.

Right, the upgraded exterior just changed terms, talk to the marketeers about that. The vinyl roof was an option, not part of the package. The upgraded exterior package included 9off the top of my head):
Turn signal hood (67 only, standard in 68)
Rocker panel moldings
Bright trim on rear fascia
Wheelwell lip moldings
Pop-open gas cap

Okay, so it refers to the interior. What all came with the deluxe interior? upper & lower consoles, brushed aluminum (67) or wood trim (68) dash, seat medallions, deluxe door panels, anything else?

I think chrome rear fascia trim was std on all 68s, and the turn signal hood std only during the early part of the 68, an option after that.

The consoles were an option themselves. I have the deluxe interior on my 67 GTA, but only the upper console.

That's interesting. Do you know if your car ever had the lower console?

funny that they'd opt for the upper console but not the lower.

could have been a money issue, or maybe the original owner liked how the non-console interior looked but wanted the map lights...who knows. I try to keep my eyes open for one in good shape to retro-fit.

Deluxe interior also had hard seat backs. Other interior option (not part of package) were woodgrain wheel (67 only), tilt column, air conditioning, convenience group (idiot lights), stereo speakers and 8-track deck.

I've never seen the roof console without the lower, weird. I've seen numberous of the other (floor and no roof). In fact my 67 vert has the floor but no roof console

Funny, up here I have had numerous people say that they have seen lots of uppers with no lowers like mine. I will keep my eyes open for a vert with an upper thoug, that would be sweet.

There is no guarantee that mine is not a clone...I don't think it is but you never know.

That would be quite a trick, since the roof folds up and all

The hardest part to fake is the foglight wiring, particularly where it routes through the radiator support and under the dash. It should be taped INTO the main harness too, something most folks who would fake one don't take the time to do.
