I just removed my cowl and I am pleased that I do not have any rust through. This is a North Carolina car. I am going to blast, use eastwood's rust converter, prime and then paint. I was expecting a whole lot worse!!! I hope my attachment works...

It does look pretty decent under there. Be sure to pay special attentions to where the hats attach.

Its a little worse than I thought..

Now that I have blasted the lower cowl panels, the cowl "hats", the part that sticks up, have pin holes in them. Should I use my eastwood rust encapsulator and then use a seam sealer or bondo to fill the holes or can you buy just the "hat" part of the cowl vent patch panel? The entire lower pan part of the cowl is rust free. Any suggestions. Thx...

Yes, they do sell just the hats.

Actually I was looking for a metal hat to weld in. Seems like I could just drill out the spot welds on the old hat and replace with a new one, since the pan is not rusted. Does anyone know what guage metal the hats are. I might try to make them.. thx,....

I believe this is metal, so as you requested, these can be welded in. Call MU to find out what they are made of.

If you went to all that trouble I would cut out the rustes area and replace them with new sheet metal. They do sell pactch panels for that area at most Mustang parts houses.

I got my new patch panels today. Is it better to replace the entire piece or just whats rusted? Seems like it would be easier to cut the old cowl out in a straight line like the new replacements and but weld in...

Its a time consuming job. You have to take your front fenders off as well. You then drill out all the spot welds.. something like 150 or so of them. If you have the time and patience you can save yourself alot of money doing this job... I am getting ready to cut my rusted areas out today to weld in new ones..
