'67 GT500 sells for $260,000 @ BJ

geez...that's crazy stuff. there's some muscle car's i'd pay 100g's for, if i had it, but 260 is a lil bit ridiculous...

lol damn... coulda gotten the New Ford GT for that and still had plenty of money leftover for a really nice Boss 429 and pocketed tons of money heh.

That can be directly attributed to "Eleanor" , no doubt.
After 60 Secs, 67 GT500's went through the roof . 260 grand was probably pocket change to that guy. If I had 4 or 5 mil , and not on paper, but actual funds, Id do it too. We have no chaps , but if I did, Id leave them really cool stuff as opposed to wads of cash...Im spending it..

I haven't figured out why that car went so high,, come on $280,800 is way too high,, even factoring inn the Gone in 60 Factor... the other 67 GT500, red with white stripes went for $55,080 with the fees..

Agreed, but the black one was a 427 not a 428, that accounts for it being at least twice as valuable IMHO.

I believe the 427 in the car was aluminum also, and it was installed years and years ago, making it an incredibly rare engine. But the thing that got me about the car was the fact the wheels stuck out flush with the fenders (front and rear) and would definitely rub if it were ever driven! Sweet, nothing like that wonderful, high-school fender grind on a $260,000 car!

Man that is high. I wonder what the story is with the car? I met a guy down in Reno a couple years back. He had a 67 GT500 with 18k original miles. He was the original owner. The car had an interesting story. He bought the car new and was harrassed by the cops because of his long hair. Being discouraged, he parked it in the back of his parents house for a couple years until he moved to Hawaii. When he moved he put the car in storage somewhere in downtown LA. His friend, who owed him money, was to pay the storage fees while he was away. This was in the late 60's early 70's. The guy did not return to California till 1991 when he came back for a convention. One evening he decided to see if his car was still there. To his amazement it still was. Shortly after, he got the car out of storage and had it restored. He owned it till the end of 2002. The car was repainted, but everything was there and like 98% original. Only NOS parts were used when needed. He even had the tires and original battery put away. I was told he put the car up for sale because he wanted a Boss 429. He listed it on Ebay and got only $62,000. I thought that was a steal considering it was all Ford, no reproduction pieces. I felt it should have fetched a hell of a lot more than 62K? I wish I could have afforded it. Needless to say, I didn't see him at Hot August Nights last year with a Boss 429

yeah,, I didn't care for the wheels either,,, according to the registry, the car was an original 428 car,, it is my understanding that the engine in the car now, was one of the aluminum block jobs that CS has been selling for the last couple years.. you can still order them from him if you want to put it in your car too! the motor is what, 15g or so,, here's a link about the motors available

I must have missed THAT one. I even tape the damn thing & fast forward through it My family & friends think I'm nuts.. Was there something special about this one?

What surprised me was the non-origional cars that went for big bucks. Like the Challenger with the viper drivetrain... Nice, but not a high $$ collectable.

Well, I went back to my VCR tape & found the '67 auction on it.. It was a really nice early 67 with the inboard driving lights... But it was a resto and as was posted here, with a new Shelby aluminum 427 FE engine... Brock Yates and the other anouncers liked the car but didn't have much to say about it..

I can't imagine how a non-original drivetrain restored car could command such a price! The first day of BJ, there was a '67 that only went for around 50K... What gives?

heard that the new owner of the black 67 GT500 is the owner/president of "Dell Computers" The car was suppose to of been "driver" quality when you got up close to it..

I thought that engine picture looked "funny"..... correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the CSE motor the only FE with two cross-bolts on each side of the main caps?
