Hi everyone here at stangnet, well I encountered a new problem today while I was driving in the freeway, once I was getting to 70 mph my car starded shaking backward and forward like it was struggling to keep speeding, so I got out of the freeway and it ran fine at low mph. Ones again I tried getting on the freeway and it ran fine I got to 85 and so with no problem. so ny any chance do you guys know what might be happening to my car its 67 mustang coupe with a 289, automatic, Edelbrock Carburetor 4bbl. I appreciate your help thank you.

Did it sound like the motor was struggling to make the power and shking or could the shaking be caused by in inproperly balanced driveshaft?

you may have had a temp vapor lock. Once you slowed down let the motor cool down a little, and the fuel line re load, the problem went away.... Thats my take on what happend. Unless there were other problems at the same time as the power surge, IE, heavy vibrations, knocking, pinging, smells, exect.... Check your transmission fluid as well make sure it doesent smell burnt, or dark and mirkey.

Also check your fuel filter... they cause strange things too.

It does sound like the typical symptoms of a dirty fuel filter or tank pick up. Pull the filter and try to blow through it. If it feels like you're trying to blow up a tire then get a new filter. You should be able to blow freely through it, like a straw.

im gonna say fuel filter too... on accel you are really pullin fuel which pushes all the debree into the filter...cruising, the suction isnt as high so the sediment doesnt suck to the filter as much blocking the filter.

Possibly a weak fuel pump but more that likely an obstruction in the filter or line.

My 2 cents... fuel fileter... I had a new 71 mustang. Two years later had that same type of problem. Fuel filter definately. Caused by rust in tank.. I remember pulling over, taking the fuel filter off and hosing it out and it would be fine for a few weeks..
Good luck..

1968 Mustang 289

Hi huys I a new on this site and very new to owning a mustang. I bought a 69 conv w/289. I love this car but i am having some issues I was wondering if you guys could help...

First of all I cannot time the car as it has no external timing mark so i bought one from Yearone but i cannot for the life of me figure out how it goes on?

can anyone give me any ideas?

Also, it rough idles as well. I am not sure I have the VA hooked up to the correct port on my edelbrock carb.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Lastly, how in the world can I post a new thread on this site?

The car dies when the Transmission shifts into 2nd, and it takes 10-15 seconds before it can actually shift into Reverse.
