Ok, let's see if I can answer all the questions.
So how does she GO? I see you've kept the 289 and added the heads that I like.
She goes pretty damn good, seeing as it's a sub-300 cube motor. Really likes to rev once you get above 3000. Not a big-time powerhouse, still enough to get you into trouble. (It sounds extra wicked with the x-pipe and Magnaflows). But this thing is my daily driver, so I need something with a semblance of tractability and reliability.
im just curious if you did the bodywork yourself? im needing some help getting the shelby stuff to line up on my 67 coupe, im in Houston
Didn't do the body work myself, we've got an unbelievable guy in Dallas that did the Mustang and my '70 Chevelle. I will say this, though...top notch work comes at a top notch price.
VERY nice, I love how clean the sides are without emblems or rocker mouldings, but I wish you'd have left the vent inisert on is all.
...and for fear of "getting you started" what did you have to do (or how much to spend) to get the hood to fit correctly?
Thanks. My dad was skeptical about the trim removal, but I was confident it would come out clean. The vents in the quarters were the one thing that I was never overly fond of on '67s. I'd never seen them smoothed, so I figured I'd give it a shot. I have the original set painted and set aside, so it's just a matter of switching them out if I ever want to go back to stock. As far as the hood goes, let's just say I've got over $2000 worth of labor (at $60/hr shop rate) in a $300 hood. :damnit:
what master cylinder and booster is that? are you running a factory power brake pedal or a manual brake one??
Stock style power booster, the master cyl is what Baer supplies with the kit. Using the factory power brake pedal.
I wanna hear about the "magazine negotiations"..
No heavy negotiations...I e-mailed pictures, they asked me when and where I can meet them to get a feature shoot done.
just out of curriosity. i got the same hood for my 68 from mustangs pluss. the fender gaps are all good and everything but the hood falls about almost 1/2 inch low at the cowl when the corners are even wtf. what was yours like?
I didn't have the droop issue, but here is what was wrong with mine:
1) The peak in the hood disappeared on top of the scoop
2) The entire peak in the hood was off from the peak in the cowl by 3/8". The entire thing had to be sanded down and built back up in the right place.
3) The lines in the front of the hood didn't match up with the headlight buckets.
4) I HATE that the underside wasn't vacuum bagged. The raw fiberglass looks like ass to me.
5) One of the corners at the back was broken off.
6) The holes for the hinges were not in the correct locations
7) The entire driver side edge of the hood had to have ~1/4" of material added to it to have equal gaps with both fenders.
The people at Mustangs Plus were totally uninterested in the problems. "Oh, really? We don't normally have those problems. But it is a racing piece after all, you always have to do minor work to get it to fit." MINOR work?

And I wasn't about to pay another $150 freight fee to get that turd back to California.
The front valance from Cobra Automotive, on the other hand, was a fantastic piece. NO fitment issues, bolted up and matched all the lines perfectly on the first shot. The only thing we did was glass in some more material around the oil cooler opening where it looked a little weak.
Did you have any problems getting the TKO 500 to fit, (interference with the tranny tunnel when trying to get the correct driveline angle)? If so did you have to cut the tunnel or if not what crossmember did you use?
No tunnel clearance issues whatsoever. I got the crossmember from Modern Driveline. I got the whole shebang from them: tranny, crossmember, clutch, clutch cable/linkage, etc... The kit has EVERYTHING you need, hardware et al. Comes highly recommended by me.
I look forward to it. Be sure to come say hey.
Are you in Cowtown to go to TCU? Will you be back in August for the Yellow Rose Classic at Will Rogers?
Blake, I'm actually from Ft.Worth, but go to school at the University of Miami. I was hoping to take the car to the Yellow Rose last year, but it wasn't done in time. If I'm not back here in Miami by then, I might be able to swing it this summer.
