I am looking to install a 67 rear in a 65 fastback. Then use builllitt wheels to get away from the spacer since it is 2" wider. Anyone ever do this? Is the only reason for the spacer on a 67 to clear the fender?

The '67-68 car is 2" wider.

You can also swap in a Fox body 8.8.

Here are all the widths. Google is your friend.

Yep, I didn't to a friends car at the time. I swapped my 8" out of my 67 for his 66 rear end. I needed room for fatter tires and he need the rear for the same reason. We did need to use spacers on the rear.

I've Done IT

I've done it and it works. However, I don't think that I would do it again as it really limits your options for wheels and depending on fender installation tolerances can result in very little fender clearance. Good luck!
