The 3 speed transmission seems loose, and the fan may be hitting the shroud since i just noticed a peice of the top of the plastice shroud broke off. i guess the engine must be jumping from torque. Does this mean the motor mount is broken or is it a transmission mount???

Is it hard to fix and approx how much???.

Change both engine mounts, then do the transmission mount. You'll need a jack to lift & support the motor to change the mounts. Ditto to do the transmission mount. All three mounts will run you about $75 at your local parts house.

Try this

Have a buddy get in your car, start it up, put in gear and hold the brakes, have him gas on it so that it applys torque to the drivetrain and watch for movement of the motor and tranny. repeat in reverse and if its a mount, it should tell on itself.

This is just a thought, never tried it, but I think it might work.

He can do it by himself, all you got to do is leave the hood up, and powerbrake it and watch the motor. Oh, and don't try this with a good fan shroud, unless you just want to destroy stuff.

Yea, me too. Got the Comet stuck on the wheel ramps last weekend and ended up breaking the shift linkage lever going into the C-4. Now I've got to dump the fluid, pull the pan & valve body, replace the linkage arm. I think I'll take this opportunity to swap the 2-3 servo to the "H" unit I ******ed off a pan fill C-4 a while back. I'm getting closer and closer to swapping to either the Toploader 4 speed that's in the Ranger or finding a small block C-6 for the Comet. I knew better than to use this POS to start with. The one and only thing you can depend on a C-4 to do, is break down on you.amnit:

I`m sure you know this, but....

there are several different kinds of those shift linkage arms, my tranny guy was real picky about that.

I`m not happy with my c-4 either, I was hoping to scratch 2nd gear with the shift kit, but not yet, maybe when I change the rear end it might do it.

Any advise on the best place to order 68 302 motor mounts? The 302 is out of a 72 ford, are the mounts the same for a 72' block?

Block is the same, just get mounts for the car. Autozone, napa, whatever should have them.
