hey . i have a 68 coupe and i'd like to try and fix the washer fluid system on the car. my windshield is always getting bugs and dirt on it where i live. And i've heard the 68 mustang didnt use a washer pump, but instead used the foot pump on the floor? or is that wrong?.. cuz it doesnt pump and fluid when i push the foot pump. and there IS water in the reservoir.
i just need to know where to look for the problem cuz im stumped.

thanks in adv. for any help

josh

I had to replace all the rubber lines on mine to get it to work. They were plugged with bugs and dirt. I dont; even know if there is a rebuild kit for that foot pump either.

The foot pump is extremely reliable, the only problem is when the rubber boot gets old and hard, but they can be replaced with a new boot.

Here's some pics of my '67 pump, disassembled, cleaned, sprayed/rubbed with McGuire's rubber conditioner and put a new o ring on the mount. Had to guess at the o ring, matched it as close as I could at the local hardware store (bigger selection than HD or Lowes).
You have to be really gentle when unscrewing the white plastic knob it would probably break easily. I just saw a rebuild kit carried by one of the big mustang catalogs - MU or NPD or one of them, can't find it now.

Mine doesn't spray either, but I think there is probably just a blockage somewhere because I can feel pressure build on the pedal. I guess it could be a blocked line or the fact that the last two paint shops sprayed over the nozzles.
