7.5 and 8.8?

how can u tell the difference visualy between the to rear axles?

i've never compaired them on mustangs but, on rangers its very obvious

the 8.8 is a good bit larger than the 7.5

i can tell if a ranger has a 4.0 or not driving behind one by looking at the size of differential housing

The axles themselves are identical, or did you mean the housings? The housings are different, you can tell by the shape of the cover. The 8.8 is very square, while the 7.5 is more like a rectangle IIRC.

Use a tape measure. I don't remember the exact dimentions but the width of the two covers will be about the same. The 8.8 will be taller by about an inch due to the bigger ring gear.

sweet, i was second guessing if my rear axle was a 7.5 or a 8.8, but those pics reassure me its an 8.8, thanx alot guys

if its a gt in your sig then why would it have a 7.5?
