Has anybody with a 99-04 V6 upgraded to an 8.8 rear end and if so can you tell me anything that would be worth knowing before i buy. Im not going to be the one doing the install but i just want to know what all i need or need to know before i get it done.

As far as I know, it's a bolt-in change. The only issue might be driveshaft length and U-joint mounting. I think the GT U-joints are bigger, but I'm not sure about that.

Why do you want to make the swap? It might be a way to get a LS diff and the gears you want, but if you are going for the extra strength, the 7.5 will live behind all but the wildest modded V6s.

ok well i heard from a couple members from the super six motorsports forums and some of my friends as well that if im going to be pushing over 400horse to the wheels then i should put in the 8.8. Now im not sure who to believe. I think what ill do for right now is just find a T-lok diff with some 3.73 gears and see what happens. Thanks

you dont have to be pushing over 400 rwhp to need an 8.8. nearing 300 torque and the right launch MAY shred your 7.5 to bits. not saying it will happen but its possible that it will sooner than you think. for now i think im goin for just gears and tlok, i wont be pushin that kinda power real soon and i havent exactly found a great deal on an 8.8

Remember if you get the gears and tlok for the 7.5, if you decide to upgrade to an 8.8 your gonna have to get new again so the money will be wasted. So if you actually know for a fact your gonna upgrade to 8.8, might as well do it now.
