hi guys,

my car is finally ready for paint and the painter wants to know if i can provide dimensions for the side stripes (instead of just eyeballing it)

here is a pic of what i'm looking for. if anyone has something that looks like this, i'd appreciate some dim's.......

the vertical width at the side light would be a good place to start, since it appears to be the width of the light itself?

although it appears that it should be a "straight line" fron the front to the back, i think he is having a hard time since it is not a flat surface.

dimensions that would help:

height to the top of the stripe from the bottom of that vertical stripe to the top?

distance between main stripe and upper and lower pinstripe? and is this constant for the entire length of the stripe? are the pinstripes the same thickness for the lenght of the car?

width of stripe at the front of the front wheel well?

width of stripe at the rear of the front wheel well?

width of stripe at the front of the door

width of stripe at the rear of the door?

width of stripe at the front of the rear wheel well?

width of stripe at the rear of the rear wheel well?

width of stripe at the end of car?

height of stripe at the rear? or some other place that can be used as a starting point. i don't know exactly where this could be measured from?

does the stripe the same distance from the side crease for the whole lenght of the car?

also i would like some opinions..........what do y'all think of the black rocker panel? he thinks it looks nice, i nixed the idea at first, but kinda like the way it looks on this car

the primary paint is going to be a brighter blue (2000 Mustang Bright Atlantic Blue
) if that matters

thanks in advance, i promise to post pics when done.

You can't tell in a picture or in casual observation, but the widths of the stripes and distances between the narrow and wide stripes vary throughout the length of the car. Very difficult to replicate exactly.

When I did my '73 a few years ago, rather than paint the side stripes on, I bought adhesive stripes for the side. I painted the hood and buried the hood stripe in clear, and I do not regret putting the adhesive stripes on the side. It would have taken forever to lay them out and I don't think they would have turned out as good because of all the edges and sharp finishes in the stripes. I did paint the lower body below the lower body line with a 1/4" break and 1/4" stripe. There is a hyperlink in my signature below if you want to see the format.
