It actually looks like a hatch version of your old vert except it's really really super clean.

those 79-82 tails give you a nice place to mount your battery kill switch in those little black parts by the liscense plate

I have a good of pair 79-82 capri lenses that I would sell, I believe the 79-82 mustang housing is the same as the capri's. You would have to seperate them and glue them up. Anyway +1 for the capri tail light b/c from about 25 feet and back they look blacked out

You need to cut a hole in your metal tail panel to get the newer lights to fit in the older cars. I am putting 87-93 LX tail lights into my 81 Project Hack Job. I bought a hole saw from Sears to cut a perfect 2" hole. I haven't done it yet, but they will bolt in no problem after that.

I'm not sure if my housing is cracked or not, but if it isn't I may be interested. How much you looking to get shipped to 48806?

Something came to mind about this today that i'm not 100% sure on, but i seem to remember something about the Capri tail lights and the Capri hatch working together somehow....like the hatch comes out further and so do the lights....someone with a Capri can correct me on this but i'm almost sure this is the case because when you put a Mustang hatch on a Capri there's some kind of conflict with the lights..

it depends if the hatch and lights were from a bubble bak or not...and as for putting 83+ lights on a 79-82, it can be done with no modifications whatsoever. Just bolt up the new lights, and only use one of your old bulbs in the outermost hole(the big red square), take the other bulb and wrap it in tinfoil(loosely) and snug it up behind the panel away from any plastic parts, the only downside is the big red square is now the only taillight bulb, it blinks, turns on with park ligths and brake lights..no cop will know the difference and you havent hacked anything up! you also have to remove the two middle studs on the new taillights, or you could drill holes but i wanted to avoid that..i still have my old lights in mint shape but i wont part with them, i'll post a pic later if anybody cares

EDIT
Crap nevermind you're putting new lights in the older car, not the other way around.

I wanted to put the '79 style taillights in my '92 but then I realized how much work it takes to do that so Im just going to put GT taillights in my LX once I get them painted.

I really hate the ugly '87-'93 LX tails.

Yes I am.
I really dont care for the LX tails.

I love the '79-'82 tails but from a thread I saw on here it looks like major surgery to put them in my '92.

I like the GT tails and picked up a perfect set for dirt cheap but theyre green so I need to get them painted to match my car.

That's cool, each to their own. I like all the tails from LX's ,GT's and the 83-86's without pinstripes. IMO, 79-82 look good on those years and should stay on those cars. Although, there was a guy on here a couple months back with a white aero fox GT with 79-82's on it and I was quite surprised how good it looked.
