I need to build up a rear end for my 90 GT and not sure if I should build up a 8.8 with all the goodies done to it like the 9" axle ends, 9" axles 31 or 33 spline with a locker, girdle, tubes welded to the center etc... or buy a 9" rear that has the brackets welded on Moser engineering has a housing for $510.00 or for $885.00 the housing, axles (up to 35 spline), wheel bearings, wheel studs and retainer plates all I would need is a complete center section. I do have a center section but I do not believe that is a nodular. right now I have a 2.73 geared stock rear that is wore out and running 12.11 @ 118.9mph plans are to eventualy forced inducted so I need something that will handle the power down the road I know a 9" is more than I need right now but will it be necesary down the road

You can build the 8.8 to hold plenty of power and abuse. I know I abuse my 8.8 pretty bad and it seems to hold up pretty well now. A 9" is not a bad way to because of the strength and wide variety of parts. I think it would come down to how much money it will cost for all the parts both ways. If you can get a complet 9" under the car for about the same amount of money or even a little more I think that would be the best way to go.

9" loses 10-15rwhp when compared to an 8.8"

By the time it's really built up there isn't much difference in price between the 8.8" and 9", but with the 8.8" you can do it a little at a time.

It's a lot easier to come up with $300 3 times than it is to come up with $900 once...

The 9 inch is inherently stronger. The 8.8 would probably be strong enough.

I would go with a 9". You are already pushing some good power, and you plan on building up. Better to get a 9" now, than a 8.8 then a 9 later. Of course, I also agree with this statement:

It's a lot easier to come up with $300 3 times than it is to come up with $900 once...

Does that 900 even include the third member?

I think you can make the 8.8 last.

I do not plan to ruin the street car. I am not going to do like I did in the black car with the tubing the coil overs and all that I am going to stay with the stock perameters just upgrade the control arms and putting on a sway bar. I just want to be able to have a rear end that will take the abuse that I plan on throwing at it and not keep on respending money that is all. I have another mustang for a daily driver so that is not an issue and also with my compresion i can not drive it without race gas so that is unother issue that i am dealing with

What's with the high compression? I thought you were building a turbo motor? Are you going to stay with the Small chamber heads?

I still plan on doing a turbo. when I get to that point I will put on the 70cc heads and the solid roller cam but not sure when I can aford the turbo so I want to try and get as much out of my current combo as I can I am thinking of tring a larger cam the next one up from the one I have I talked to lunati before I started the motor and they said my cam is a little small for the cubic inch so I am thinking about seeing what they would recomend on the the cam hope to bleed some of the cylinder pres off so that pump gas could be used for the street if the timing is backed off the when I go to the track then run the race gas and put the timing back up plus I want to put a little bit of nitrous on until the turbo 150 to 200 shot should make me competitive
