I know there are several articles out there on 8.8 rear swaps for older mustangs, but I want some of you guy's input. I have a 67 notchback with a pretty much stock 289, no way in the world I am ever going to overload the factory 8" rear that is in it...BUT a friend of mine has an 8.8 rear with a posi and disc brakes out of an 05 GT that he will sell me for stupid cheap...Once I take posession of this rear, how much of a hassle is it, or will one out of an 05 even fit?? I am handy with a welder, need to buy new wheels anyway, and would love the rear disc option. Comments, thoughts?

i dont know how wide the 05's are...I'm guessing too wide to fit without cutting.

The fox body and SN95's just need new perches welded on. The fox rears are identical in width to a 67-73 msutang rear whereas the sn95's are slightly larger

Just me, but the only 8.8 I'd consider is one from an Exploder. All these have 31 spline axles, many have disc brakes and traction loc too.Now unless the 05's have 31's too........................................don't know what axles are in my 06, but it's got 3.55's and trac-loc.

Yeah, probably just gonna forgo this project for now, I dont see me ever needing a stronger rear end, and the one under it dont leak! So im not gonna mess with a good thing.
