I noticed that my map light was out. Because it was so old, I didn't even bother to meter the bulb, just picked up a new 1816 and popped it in, but still nothing. I metered the old bulb and it's fine.

What's the usual failure point on these things?

Corrosion of the contacts inside. Use a soldering iron to melt the plastic press pins to separate the housing. Then use sandpaper to clean up the copper contacts. Reassemble, melt the plastic back together to seal, and enjoy your new dingleberry light

I’m glad you mentioned this . I have the original map light in my coupe that was out of my first Fox . Worked when removed and doesn’t in my coupe now . Wiring checked out . I guess this is next

I would suggest tinning the copper contacts with solder while it is apart. The contacts will eventually corrode again. This will make it more of a permanent fix. This is what I did and 12 years later, the map light in my Saleen is still working perfectly.
