im looking to buy some white face gauges for my mustang. The problem is that i have an 89 but my speedo goes up to 140mph all the gauges i see for 89's only go up to 85mph. And what is the difference between the 87-89 and the 90-93.
thanks
eric

You think you've got problems.....I'm from Canada. Try finding white gauge faces that read in KM/H!!!

Anyway, the difference between the gauges after ‘89 is a result of Ford using a driver’s side airbag in place of the non-airbag column. The column is wider to accommodate the larger wheel centre and as such the gauge layout was changed to fit.

...also, everyone says 89 has 85mph speedo and 90 has 140mph speedo. my 89 has a 180km/h speedo (~110mph). must be a canadian thing

sorry blubeast, i got a little side-tracked and didn't answer your original post. i've never heard of 89's with the 140mph speedo - but, like i said mine is 110mph - so i'm not too sure. if i had to take a guess i'd say ford probably made this a running change in late 89 model year so the last of the 89's got the 140mph speedo. if that is the case then you should be able to use the white face 140mph for 90-up. otherwise i really wouldn't know.

My 89 has 140mph speedo, it was a running upgrade in 1989, when they ran out of 85mph speedos. I'm not sure if the 1990 will fit because of the air bag, usually they don't have white gauges for 1989 with a 140mph speedo, just 85mph.

TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION. YES! They do make White face Guages for 89's....The 89's with 85mi Speedo's where the first half of 89, then the "25th Anniversary" Stangs kicked in with the 140mi Speedo ( 64 1/2 first stang, 89 1/2 25th anni...you get it), Look on ebay, I know Mac Carries them...ummm Bkk Speedware has them...like I said look on ebay, or in your summitracing.com magazine.

i have an 89 gt 25th anv. it doesnt have a 140 it has a 85.!! I bought the 140 white face gauage and put them on and i thought i could just change the gear.!! well u can get a 23 thooth gear and it will be right but u have to have a 8 tooth internal gear so i had to spend 50 bucks and buy a new guage pod w the 85 back on it. to fix it all cause it became to much of a hassle. it isnt worth it plus it is cool to wrap the 85 all the way around and freak ur friends out :}

Try stangparts.com . I have seen 1989 140 MPH speedos there before.

I have an 89 coupe with a 140 mph speedo and I put white face gauges in it. I see them all the time for the 140 mph speedo in an 89 version, MAC, BBK, and other major companies make them. Flip threw some major catalogs and u'll see um

i would also try calling the manufacturer/vendor and see if they will just piece it together for you. i had similar headaches for my gauges. they eventually sent me the right speedo.
you can get speedo recalibrated from Brothers Performance or some subsidiary of them. search in here for more info if you want. i remember the threads from about 6 months ago).
good luck.

I had a '89 coupe with 140 mph gauages, and it had the 25th anniversary badge on the dash. I think it just depends on luck of the draw.

Before you purchase the Mac gauges check these sites out. I personally have the NR el-glo gauges and they're sweet. A little pricey compared to others but the quality is top notch. Hopefully this helps.
