Just trying to plan for the future. I'm looking at Moser's 9" housing ends from summit ($90). Ideally, I'll put 31 spline axles in it with a new 31 spline carrier. Right now I have added up about $700 for parts, this includes new gears, seals, bearings and shims.

My first question is how much should I expect to pay to have the old ends cut off and the new ones put on?

Secondly, I was talking to a guy at the track several months ago about this topic and we were discussing budget ways of doing things. He claimed that several of his friends ran stock rearends and axles with c-clip eliminators and they held fine. These guys were supposedly running low 12's.

If I had a hard time getting all the funds together, or wanted to do it in stages, how do you think stock axles would do with the 9" ends and c-clips removed? Once I have my tranny beefed up and something done with the rearend, I should be mid 12's on sticky tires. Are the c-clips really the weakest link in the axles?

Thanks in advance!
