Has anyone ever bought this kit? It's advertised as being for a truck, but I can't see why it wouldn't work on a stang.
http://www.streetrodstuff.com/Products/2058/

Not a fancy kit, but looks like it has everything you need to swap to rear disc. It even includes everything you need to make your parking brake work (drum in disc style rotors with pads, etc). I linked to the big bearing kit, but I've been told they also offer the same kit at the same price for the small bearing 9's.

Like I said, not a fancy or ultra high performance kit, but would probably work great for 95% of us and is CHEAP at only $375.

Sounds almost too good if you know what I mean.

I have it and it works great. It is made by Ford Racing and is also sold by Currie. They are Ford Explorer brakes. If you are thinking of putting it on a 9" then you must have big bearing axles.

Same stuff on a '99 or so Explorer, I got all the stuff I need from the junkyard for less than 60 bucks.
However I have some install questions myself.

maybe ask cannoball for his old directions from his kit! I would like to do the same on my car. are these parts more available than the granada swap parts from the junk yards? cause i have found that buying a granada kit from discswap(he had a sale up for 454 during the holidays) is cheaper and easier than piecing together the parts from the junk yard.

Looks like a good deal BF!

Not to highjack the thread, but I'm doing SN95 rears on my own big bearing 9".
Being a product developer by trade I looked at the brackets out there and decided to make some myself. How hard can it be? In my own defense I should mention that I'm in Denmark, so it's always a hazzle to ship stuff here it seems.

I'll be offering the brackets to others interested and will have them in quantity in approx. 3 weeks. Pricing TBD but don't expect cheap... They'll come with instructions, disc centering rings (if you're not running Moser axles), all hardware. No calipers or discs - it would be a bit stupid to ship heavy parts made in the USA to Denmark and then back again!

Below is a pic of the CAD model for the left side pre-production bracket (prototype all done and tested). The actual bracket will be milled tuesday and then test fitted on my 69 and a 70 with Moser axles. Can't see it from this angle, but there is a lip if you want to weld it to the axle plate. Some people here want that. It's billet machined steel, weight is 480g each.

I believe the Explorer conversion brakes are solid rotor, not vented as the ad says.

You can also use the brakes off of a 92-96 crown vic/grand marq/town car to use with a small bearing 8 or 9". It requires a spacer be machined, but its much lighter than the exploder setup, or so I hear.

Cromn Vic brakes=small bearing 8" and 9"

Explorer=big bearing 9"

Oh, and you can get vented rotors for the Explorer setup through local auto parts stores. They are a little more expensive, but can be found.

there are also places that sell upgrade rotors for the CV setup that are vented as well. vintage venom includes them in their rear disc kit.

Does the explorer kit require different rims/clear stock rims? I have 15's that clear the drums and would like to keep them, and I suppose there are people with stock 14's that would like to keep them as well..

They're 11" discs, so they SHOULD fit.

they'll fit with most 15" wheels but the explorer discs are only for big bearing rear ends. the crown vic discs are for the small bearing rearends which is what the mustangs use.

The Falcon link is a really good one but there is no description of the spacer for the Crown Vic stuff other than it's available on the internet but didn't say where. Can you tell me how to get one- or even make one? Thanks.

Question, can you run the same size rotors front and rear? Or is it a better idea to run the larger ones in the front and smaller in the rear?

The reason I ask is that I have a rear disc kit that I got from ebay, and had the front Granada's, but traded the fronts for a work car. I was thinking of going with Mustang Steve's 13" fronts, but I don't have the money for a newer set of 17" rims and am currently running 15" rims.

you can run the same size rotor front and rear, the versailles had 11" rotors all around as did the 79-81 trans am's with rear discs, also 80's lincoln contininentals, SVO mustangs, lincoln MK VII and others that don't pop right into my head as well. in fact until the mid 90's most cars that had rear discs had the same size rotor front and rear.

PS, most Ford 11" rotors are actually more like 11 1/4" or so rather than exactly 11 inches.

I got this kit (from Currie) on both the 68 and 93 and both have functional parking brakes. They work good and easy to install. I am running the stock 14" rims on my 68 so some minor grinding of the caliper was required.
