91-93 Auto Transmission? Any good?

actually, if the cars only got 30,000 on it and it's very nice and clean i would'nt really worry about what tranny it has in it........i mean, with that low miles who cares.......you could always swap for a stick or rebuild the aod in it, the engine and the rest of the car is whats important.
aod's are not known to be particularly wonderfull stock........although with that low of miles if you immediatly put a shift kit in it and take care of it i'm sure it would last for awhile.........like i said if the whole car looks and acts like its only got 30;000 and the price is right don't worry about the tranny. just my opinion

I do know that it is often said that the AOD have "weak" parts in the transmission. I think Ford as a kit available to replace some of the crappy parts. Also, I have heard of people buying AOD's with less than 50,000 miles on them and having the rebuild the transmission. However, I wouldn't worry too much about it if it has low miles, great body and engine, and is going for a good price. You could always do a 5 speed conversion. In stock form, the AOD is not a very good performer. You may actually get beat by a ricer that can run in the high 15's (V6 Tiburon, Celica, Late model Integra, Civic SI, etc), but it will still be a very close race. If you change it to a 5 speed or put a decent shift kit in, you should be able to take any of the above mentioned cars in stock form on the 1/4 mile without a problem.

What is a h\c\i ??

well there's the lentech valve body which depending on which one it is can be a expensive valve body but, that doesnt mean the transmision as a whole is a lentech.......big difference. looks like a nice car though, if it's clean, and low miles, see what you can get it for it may be worth it regardless....what is that an lx?
also, how many cars have you looked at in your area and what are they going for in what shape???
you don't wanna over spend but, it's worth spending a little more for something thats clean, hasn't been butchered, and well cared for, plus, figure the cost of the supercharger, gears, valve body, maf, and all that other stuff and hey if you bought a car with out all that it would cost you 3 grand probably to do all that so......people put more into cars and have gotten less out, so if you really love the car and it's what you want thats whats important........with what it has doesnt sound like you'll get ripped one way or the other......just my opinion ofcourse...

not nessesarily, especially for an auto. automatics soak more power. if the heads are stock one of those superchargers may give it 70 horses or so ( at around 5 or 6 psi boost. now, if stock its 225 flywheel hp, add 70 ( all this is ball park mind you ) thats 295 at the fly wheel......figure parasitic loss and 255 rear wheel isn't that far off. maybe it isn't tuned perfectly and there's more power to be had.
what you need to do is focus on the car, if it's quality built, been cared for, isn't butchered etc....... the lentech valve body is a good one i think that one runs about 400 bucks.....
figure a stock 5.0 in nice shape well cared for may be worth 4 or 5 grand ( this varies but i'm trying to help you add all this up in your mind ) , that novi 1000 will cost about 1600 bucks, that valve body another 400 bucks, plus the maf meter, the exaust, and all that.........you have an easy easy 2,000 in upgrades, probably clser to 3,000 if you went and bought all that new. is this stuff you'd do to the car yourself?? if you want the car to keep, drive, etc, and you planned on modding it, then sounds like a good deal. if you want it to re sell it or make money on it forget it. look at it this way, the longer you take the cheaper it's getting.....lol......about how much is 7250 canadian in us curranccy anyway????

where is the car? just wondering if u saw it on ebay or something cause it seems like its in europe and most people that sell cars from europe on ebay are all fake, but it seems pretty good, 255hp look REALLY!!!! low for all that stuf on it, from what i know aod are about 2secs slower on the 1/4mile i would think about switching that tranny out first, dont let all that power go to waste on a auto, if u are sure with the money and everything i would say go for it, that car is sick, its alot of money for a stang but well worth it with those parts and the miles are CRAZY 30k miles? thats hard to find, if everything is good with the money and shipping and stuff i would say go for it, but check out that hp again something has to be wrong, good luck man

It comes out to US$5500 certified and road ready.

He says the TV cable needs adjusting seeing the OD to D downshift is a little hard.

With only 40000miles on it, it can't be too bad. It was his third car and his weekend fun toy.

He said it pulls a 14.1 in the 1/4.

well before i bought mine my range was 5500, if i'd seen that car i would'nt have thought twice!.. if the car looks and drives as well as the pics thats a good deal in my opinion. especially if you plan on keeping it for yourself. i'd definatly have that tv cable adjusted as that can trash an aod fast. even at that like i said, if you add up the parts thats still a good deal. most people usually try to get 6500 or up for stuff like that around my neck of the woods, probably more because of the milage. have you driven it??? if so whats she run like???

Haven't driven it yet.

I have to drive 4 hours to see it and I want to be sure before I put myself out onto a limb.

He seems to be really wanting to get rid of it. Hence the lowering of the price.

Should I ask him to get the tranny cable fixed b4 I check it out?

I would be a little wary about the mileage, maybe do a carfax on it if you can't make a decision when you look at it. The engine bay is clean, but not as clean as I would expect on a car with 30,000 miles, mainly the front by the radiator is a little dirty, and the throttle body/egr/iac looks oxidized like my 130,000 miler. Also, the wiring harness on the near side fender looks like there is some red paint overspray, possibly pointing to a repaint (like my car was lol). I am a pessimist at heart, so please don;t take offence at my observations. I got my 92 for 3800, and have since sank in 2000.00, at least ,on maintanance. So now my car cost me close to 6000.00, and thats without a supercharger...but I am happy with it. As long as You are happy with it in the end, thats all that matters.

Btw, ask if he has done any cooling upgrades, as the radiator support brackets looked tweaked, and the shroud is really close to the belts, usually indicative of a 3 core being shoehorned in. But it also be a pushed in radiator too....I better shut up already.
