what kind of power do these cars have? I assume it is stock, and can just hear the guys at work trying to compare it to my cobra. Just curious some kid I work with just got one, and is pretty proud of it. I would assume no contest myself, would that be a correst assumption? thanks, chris

5.7L was the most powerfull motor available, it made 245hp and 345tq with a 4spd auto and would run a high 14 quarter at best. Stock to stock they would have more torque, but have 50hp or so less.

They didn't come with 5.7's in 92...the LT1's didn't come out until 93 in the Camaros...the 92's had 305ci engines that pumped out an amazing 205hp and 285tq...hardly fast, lucky to get a low 15 with them if they really try...

Yeah, I guess they did offer the 350 in a limited number of cars, but there wasn't an IROC-Z in 1992, they stopped calling them IROC's in 1990....

Even so, the 350's were turds that year...

unless it is modified

see for yourself

ohv V8 5.0 / 305 220-230HP 290-300TQ

ohv V8 5.7 / 350 230-245hp 330-345tq

the 5.7 has more torque stock though; the only way to find out would be to run him at the track

all I know is that it is a 25th anniversary z28, with the big spoiler, not the rs one. he said it had a 350 in it tuned port injection, he also said that his previous eclipse gsx, had twin turbos, stock, and ran a 12.2 with just the boost turned up a little. I doubt we'll ever run them, he never wanted to run me with his eclipse. I'm to old to have to resort to that kind of ego inflation. still I pulled on a new gto, him having a huge head start, but we ran into traffic. with his gto behind me smoking the tires(behind!) that has to be a lighter, and much more powerful version of the same size engine, or do they have the 6.0L? oh well, well see what happens if that day comes. but keep debating if you feel like it!!!

I had a 92 Z-28 tuned port 350 bought it new in 91 although i did really like the car they do not run very strong.I had a 95 Z and a 99 Z and those cars are in a total different class power wise.I would think your 97 cobra would run circles around a 92 Z.

actually guys being a previous owner of a 91 vette... (L98 last year beofore LT1)
the 91 camaro z28 the one with the higher wing looks like a 93 cobra wing... had the same hp and toque specs, with the same exact transmission. the only difference was wieght.. Iran quite a few of those cars... and the 350 was ALWAYS an option for every yea camaro besides like 2. grant it it wont stack up to anything with an svt badge but they are do doubt quik cars... and high 14's at best is a joke.... i believe they are only about and 8th second or so behind the 89 trans am. they are supposed to turn a 13.8-14.2

Funny you should bring this up. Just Friday I raced a 1992 Z28 350 TPI. My friend woke me up saying he had a guy in a camaro that said he has never lost to a mustang. So my friend being the **** talker that he is says I will give him two cars. So we line up, the guy two cars ahead of me. My friend drops his arms, I roll into it (very easily), pop into second and by the time I shift into third I am literally blowing by him. By time I hit 100, I was about 4-5 cars in front of him. A 92 z28 is no contest for a 97 Cobra. My snake might have a few mods but not many.

usually the owner isn't the one talking, in my case. It will be another guy at work with a 97 corolla 4 door, with all the bolt ons, you know fart cannon. well see how long this car even lasts, he goes through them about every three months. fart cannons, I always wanted to slip on a couple just to hear them, and then take them off of course. if a 1.6 liter drones with them, what would a 4.6 with offroad exhaust do?
