94 problems HELP

My car seems to have some serious electical issues... It sputters and pops sometimes like its running on 4 cylinders, backfires... the engine is a 306, canfield's, msd ignition,10:1 comp, etc etc.... i have gone and gave it a tune up to try to help my issues... new plugs, new wires, new dis. cap, new blaster coil, new o2 sensors... and it seems everything i do makes the problem worse... i was wondering if anyone has had any similar problems and what was the fix... i know it could be a wide range of things but at this point im open to any ideas.... also before the car would seem to run fine then start missing and backfiring and running super rough then sometimes it would run fine again... now it has been sitting for a few days and after i get it started it runs horrible all the time... thanks for the help! brian

What is your timing set at?

this may sound wrong, but it could actually be a vacuum or an exhaust leak

Slamming on the gas to hard all at once I've "jumped" the timing on my timing chain a long time ago. Car wouldn't go through an intersection from a dead stop to save its life before the light turned red again and it got worse as I drove it. 50mph, 40, 30, 25, and then dead stop. Indeed check the timing at the distributor first then move beyond up to the spark plugs firing order ( I've done that one too ) for correctness and down to see if the timing chain is ok and on track. My car ran like that when I had the C&L on it. To the defense of the C&L, it ran great on my '95.

Anyways, I switched MAFs and it cleared up. Can you borrow someones MAF just to try out?

How about the ignition module? Have you replaced it?

Im going to check my timing this week, and i can borrow a mas to try on my car so ill see if that is the problem... what about the TPS? would that only mess it up at idel?

Autozone will test your ignition module for free!! Just take it to any store.

your timing possibly could be reversed... or your TB could be hooked up incorrectly... have you checked the cleanliness of your MAF lately? that could screw up the computer... just some ideas...
