i noticed today because i hauled ass out of a gas station. i got around 4k rpm and i heard a really loud fast knocking. so when i got home i open the hood and gave it a little gas. knocking starts to get loud at around 2k rmps in park. so i did a little research because i thought it might be a rod but i read if i hold the brake and go to about 1800 rmp and the noise gets louder then its probably a rod. but i did that and i couldnt hear knocking at all. everything is bone stock from the factor as far as i know. except for low resistance spark plug wires and a high output distributor.

Can you determine the location from where the sound is coming from? I am going to make a guess that you are hearing timing chain slap if the sound is coming front front of the engine. The other possible alternative might be engine knock from low grade gas. And also the worst case scenario. crank issues, rod etc. Anyway good luck and hope the problem is not too costly.

Wish I was there to hear the knock. Best to take it to a well known honest mechanic, maybe someone you know and have them diagnose it. Your other alternative would be to gas up with high quality premium gas, and see if the knock goes away. Sometimes low octane gas causes premature ignition (pinging) when under load. Again, good luck.

That sound seems to be coming from your rocker/valve cover area. Still hard to tell due to the alternator noise. I would have someone use a mechanics stethoscope to better hear from where the sound originates. You can also use a piece of wooden dowel placed on the cover and placing your ear to the dowel to hear as well.
