Well I know of atleast one question off of the top of my head. The 95 motor and the early model motor have two different types of distributors. It looks like I neeed half of one distributor and half of the other. Can anyone give me any ideas of which route to take. I dont think i can just take apart the distributors and combine them because they seem to be different all around. Do I need to use the new distributor w/ out the vacuum advance or have an old style one. I am very confused and any advice would be much appreciated.

** I did some searching and mostly it seems like people are using the 85 distributor for a fuel injected manual car on their carbed roller motors. The question I have is do I need something different for a 95 motor taht is carbed and automatic?

Probably the best way to go for low buck is a Duraspark II setup. This is the electronic ignition that came on Fords in the early 80s. The '85 Mustang distributor is supposed to have a good performance advance curve, that's not a bad way to go. You can get a rebuilt '85 distributor at a local parts store.

You'll need a steel gear to run on the roller cam.

Here's a good place for information.

There are so many options: you could go with MSD or Pertronix or some other aftermarket electronic ignition with a billet distributor. You could even keep your factory distributor and just replace the gear. Or you could use the factory parts with a Pertronix unit replacing the points. If it were me, I would at a minimum get the Pertronix ignition and get rid of the points. Oh, and I've heard that the large cap adapter is a good way to go.

Any points type or electronic for the early car will work, as long as you use the steel gear. Just make sure you measure the shaft diameter, ford made two sizes.. .467 and .531

Summit Racing has a GM style HEI distributor that works great and can be had for around 100 bucks. I used it on a 95 GT engine that I carbed and dropped into an 82 cj-7.
