Take a look at the "Cobra clone" link in my sig, I documented my 94 V6 conversion to a 5.0 Cobra. It should give you some ideas.

Since you (hopefully) still have the entire totaled 95 you can use it for parts. If you have any doubts on the parts in the 96, you can take 'em from the 95. I would do some research on the differences between the 94/95 and 96-98 V6 Mustangs to see what you might have to swap over. A swap from a 94-95 V6 from a 94-95 GT/Cobra is fairly straightforward; I don't know if the 96 will be as easy.

There was a guy a bit ago who was doing a 5.0 into a 98 V6. He might have some insight. Might have to PM him.

its just hard for me to believe that there is not more info on this swap. i mean dont hate me for it but i have done a bunch of honda swaps and the is more info the you could ever want to swap a 95(obd1) honda motor into a 96(obd2) honda car. all it takes in an ecu adpter and a little wiring. well let me know if anybody has anything for me because i'm having a hard time finding a 94-95 body to swap my engine into.

Apples to oranges, buddy. Not a lot of folks (in this forum anyway) have done the 3.8 to 5.0 swap, and very few have done the 96-98 V6 to 5.0 swap. You only get a step-by-step guide if the swap is common and someone takes the initiative to write one up. This forum is about helping folks out with their cars and their projects, but it's very much a do-it-yourself forum. Most of the projects we take on are unique enough that a guide won't help much, Your project has that extra twist - Ford wired the 96-98 Mustangs differently. We've pointed out to you what documentation we know about; start the project and we'll try to help you if you get stuck.

If you're looking for a "hold my hand and wipe my @$$" step=by-step manual, I think you have the wrong car and the wrong project.

Just my $0.02.

should be straight forward swap. I swaped my v6 in my 95. in the 96 the k member will be different I'm sure because they were running a 4.6 in the GT. Could be wrong it happened once before.

If you need some info let me know I have done a few now in the 94/95 cars. Ask away.

Doing the 5.0 Swap in the 96-98 Cars are a little more involved compared to doing the 94/95 V6 to V8 swap. Now the K-Member does need swapped out. For wiring.. That gets fun. I highly recommend finding a Donor V6 (94-95) and swapping all the interior harnesses over to your 96 Car. I even recommend swapping the Fuel Tank over from the V6 donor car. After that it would be just like doing the 94/95 Swap. To me it makes life easier and if problems ever occur it saves time going thur wiring and finding what is truly wrong.

So basically, convert the car over to a 94-95 V6 THEN do the swap. He'll need two donor cars then. Ouch. Is the entire chassis electrical harness different, or just the dash harness?

All depends on how a person does the swap... if they can get a 94-95 GT Donor car then all they need is that... if they already have a motor and stuff its cheaper to get "V6" Body harnesses than GT even though they are the same.

The Body harness and Dash harnesses are different. Which can be taken car of by repining and hacking the harness... but for the time it takes to do all that its easier to just swap everything over.
