Any difference between the 96-98 Cobras? Any one year better than the others? As it comes closer and closer to time to sell the 65, i need to know which of the years will be the best bang for the buck..

I know I will get flamed but here is my opionion the 96-98 are ok the 99 was better it still had hp issues the 2001 2002 are very cool except the trans and the 03-04 are the best I also think the 94-95 are cooler than the 96-98 just because of the 5.0 thing

Skip the '96-'98 and just buy a Mark VIII.

The 98s don't have the ugly dash pod...or the cool strut tower brace...other than that they are the same.

I love my 98 snake...3:73s = mid 13s.

I love the clock/dash pod on my 97. Its a perfect place for gauges too. 96-98 Cobra's are by far the sexiest looking Cobras out there.

96 Cobras used to have a cooling problem, but by now every one of them has probably been fixed by Ford.

98's have different rims than the 96 and 97's. 98's have a comosite material for the IMRC's and the 96-97 have aluminum. Don't the 98's have something plasitc in their intake as opposed to metal like the 96-97. (won't conduct heat). But basically all three years are the same and none of them have an advantage on the other.

Most people say gear wise that 4.10's are a min, but 4.30's are better. Its just your personal taste and what you plan to do with the car.

Well thanks for the help, do you guys think it is possible to find a 96-98 for under 9K? the lower the better....and one more thing, which would look better on a black on black, chrome 95 Cobra R's or chrome Saleen replicas

In my area the cheapest I see 96-98's is about 10,500. Most are high mileage and in the ads they list problems or areas that need attention (scratches, dents, etc.). You could probably find one for under 9 grand though. Chrome Cobra R's would look better I think. That's all personal opinion though.

I totally agree. I think the 96- 98's are the best looking Cobras around.
I own a Yellow 98 Cobra which i bought 2 years ago for $17,800 with 24k miles on it. Not bad eh? Most of them were selling for over $20grand with that low of miles.
I still look at prices on 96-98 cobras to see what they are going for now.
Mine has 69K miles on it now and would probably sell for about $11 or $12grand. But the Yellow is more sought after so that could help the value as well.
I have seen many 96-98's for under $10,000 but they have around 75K + miles on them. Depends if you want one with higher miles or not.
I found mine on Autotrader.com so try looking there.
Example:
Price $9,495
Mileage 85,762
Exterior Color Black
Interior Color Black
Body Style Coupe
Doors Two Door
Engine 8 Cylinder Gasoline
Trans. 5 Speed Manual
Fuel Type Gasoline
Drive Type 2 wheel drive
Stock No. 1170
VIN 1FALP47V7VF159125

GOOD LUCK!!

I bought my 98 yellow cobra with 76k miles on it for 10,795 and other than having the warped head issue, which was covered under warranty, i love it. The car was slighty modded with a mac cat-back, eibach springs, tokico illima shocks, 4.30's, and a k&n.

When having my 96 dyno tuned my tuner told me that I should consider purchasing a 98 Cobra computer module. He said that there were more tuning parameters available which would have helped with dialing in the drivability of my car. Other that that and some minor appearance things already mentioned there don't appear to be many differences. I like the dash pod on my 96 as it gave me a great place to mount my boost and fuel pressure gauges.

I have seen some real low mileage 96 Cobra Coupes in the $9K range that made me depressed. But good for you though. Good luck!

Well as far as high milage i don't mind finding one that has broken the 100K mile barrier. I plan to highly modify in the time I own it anyway....as long as it gets from A to B inbetween modifications

I picked up my 96 for 10,000.

Another difference between the 96s and the 97-98s is the 96s don't have the adjustable side support in their seats, just the lumbar.
The seats are worthless anyway as you'll find out the first time you go sliding off.

I'd have to agree with that.

The 03-04 seats hold you in nice and snug though!

www.wheelreplicas.com check them out if you haven't yet, they have some great pics. I bought mine a year ago with 96000 on it for 12000.00. But I planned on having to rebuild everything at some point, or upgrade i should have said. this car still runs great. I have a set of the saleens waiting for some rubber so I can put them on mine. I dont think my 97 has the side support things, if I don't have my seat belt on I slide all over the place. And in a receant post I think I saw someone get a 97 PG vert pretty cheap. They are around, but they just seem to pop up, if you see one close to the price you are willing to spend, drive it you'll be sold, and ****** it up. Good luck, chris
