So i am making this thread in hopes someone later down the line may find it useful as ive had quite the time learning what i have. Your best option by far is a donor car, i was hard headed and pieces it together and could have saved potentially thousands. as it will already have everything im going to go over it will just need swapped.
So i originally had a 98 mustang GT and was involved in an accident and decided to go the route of reviving it. There is alot of misconceptions ive read and had to work around primaraly with the electrical.
To start ofcourse youll have to have a v8 engine, then a computer and harnesses, ill talk about that first as its caused me the most trouble.
Harnesses-
So in theory you could run a stand alone and what not and avoid alot of this but i wanted to make it all look somewhat oem. So one thing that screwed me in my research is that the v6 to v8 harnesses are the same from the firewall back, Yes and no. in my situation i went from a 98 to a 02 which made it even harder and ill explain. So yes the v8 and v6 harnesses (dash, body, tails ect) is the same, ON THE SAME BODY STYLE! So i had bought a 98 engine harness as mine was not salvageable and went to connect it to the dash and the 3 connectors in the passenger kick panel where not the same, on a new edge its the connectors C210, C214, C215. so if you have a 96-98 computer harness youll need a 96-98 harness for the engine, dash, and body. and with a new edge if you have a 99-04 youll need 99-04 harnesses.
between these years there were minor differences in harnesses, such as in 98 they had the ability to boost voltage to the fuel pump at wot, but no difference that would make something not work. basically they also changed some connectors when going from sn95 to new edge
PATS-
For the pats, assuming you dont delete it or its not allready deleted, youll need your ecu, ignition(i took the whole colum) the ccrm in passenger fenderwell. and ive read you have to take the speedo and i did it to be sure but not sure if you absolutly have to or not but those those 3 main things need to match from the same car for pats to be okay. again, ecu, ignition, ccrm. the only way you can mismatch this is by rewiring, repinning, and making more connectors than MY brain can handle lol. unless you put all sn95 wiring in a new edge (as i did) or all new edge stuff in a sn95
Drivetrain-
So as far as being able to put the motor in, its a direct bolt up. no changing k-mebers or anything crazy like that. but the v6 often came with a weaker rear end and i swapped to the 8.8. the mounts on the body are the same just need the axel and your control arms. and while were here i may add the v6 cars do not have quadshocks. you can get the brackets for the chasis and the threaded holes are allready there just may need chased out. yes the springs are slightly softer in the front, i havent seen a defentive answer on that but me and my buddys car (01 gt) my nose is visibly lower. youll have to do some exhaust work too, just making a new system overall and to change the o2 sensors
The v6 brake booster will need to be swapped to the v8 pedal assembly and hydroboost for driver side clearance issues with the valve covers. i recommend getting same year master cylinder as well due to the plug on the side being different from sn95 to new edge
Lines-
i avoided alot of pain by having my buddy make 2 small brake lines to go from the master cylinder to the v6 distribution block and it all works (non abs car ill add)
also need the power steering lines to go to the hydroboost for it to work. along with the reservoir as its different v6 to v8. same with the coolant reservoir
i am, for the time being, stuck with the auto trans, that being said you can use the v6 cooler lines to work on the trans, i didnt do that as i cut mine thinking they werent the same. that being said i used AN line. which takes me to my next topic, for everything i am about to talk about you can absolutely just use oem stuff and be fine, i used AN lines for alot and it saved me alot of hastle and looks f’ing rad. i used 4AN line to an aftermarket cooler for the trans, then i ran 8AN supply fuel line with an aftermarket AN fuel filter, and then a 6AN return line. saying that, you need a v8 fuel pump. i got some adapters that slipped right on the factory fuel pump nipples that worked great. the main is 3/8 and return is 5/16 as i went through 3 ordering proccesses buying the wrong stuff lol. you can also buy some neat quick connect adapters for a stock fuel rail that will convert to a AN connection
i did not retain my a/c so i do not have any information regarding that or the emissions as i deleted that and the egr
-
if i think of anything else at the moment but i will add if i do.
i just wanted potentially someone in the future to maybe find all the information in one spot so feel free to add anything below that would be helpful!
