Cheapest route is gonna be PI cams. You will see some nice gains.

Hi Tech Stage IIs. You do not need new valve springs and they won't kill your low end tq like other stage IIs.

Indeed.

robertg82, why not think about obtaining a set of PI heads -- with cams -- and an intake and go that route? You'll get the benefit of higher compression, better flowing ports (esp. the exhaust side), better chamber shape, better valves etc.

You won't see the full benefit of PI cams on NPI heads when the exhaust port, for instance, stalls at around 0.350" lift...

I don't see why people swap the PI cams into their non-PI motors. If you manage to get ahold of the cams AND heads (along with intake), then I can see why you would want to do it. If you're just swapping cams why not swap some aftermarket cams in?

Price. $25 vs $500+. I'd love to put a set of Hitech stage 2s in, but I can't fork out the cash to do it.

modularheadshop has some neat cams for npi heads but i havent decidied to by them yet still waitin on some reviews and with ya on the pi thing i know it is a great improvement but from what i read npi heads when ported are better than ported pi heads plus on the pi heads you have piston to valve issues
