a friend of a friend is selling what he says to be a 98 cobra motor which is carberated now i have never seen this before so it sounds pretty cool the price is right so i just might pick it up, anyone ever see/have one of these if so whats it run like and what will i need to get it running thanks for any help you can give me. also is there any way i can check if it is indeed a cobra motor marking of id #s on it?

Get a picture of it. I can just about guarantee it's not a 98 cobra motor. Unless someone took some serious time and made some custom stuff, there's no way it's a carbed 98 cobra motor.
The most obvious give away would be the heads. And the engraved plaque on the heads, I believe.

I think you can buy carbed intakes for cobra's and 5.4L 2v's I can't remember off the top of my head who makes them. As far as why you would do it? Some guys just don't want to mess with the computer stuff. I think it is mostly useful when putting that engine in other cars.

He doesn't know what he's talking about. 98 cobra motors are DOHC and fuel injected. Any mustang motor since the 80s has been fuel injected...

If the guy took a perfectly running 98 cobra motor and stuck a carb on it, someone needs to slap that guy or get a damned good explanation. If he just has the cobra long block, minus the induction and computer then I can see it. I didn't know there were carb manifolds for the 4.6 DOHC yet though 
Ford Motorsport will be releasing a carbed option for the new 4.6 based modular 5.0 crate motor. But to convert a 4.6 over to carb now you will need a distributor, carb and a few other things. Frd motorsport has not yet released the kit. I doubt seriously that it is a 4.6.
One look at the engine should tell you wether or not it is. The valve covers between a windsor based engine and a modular engine are huge.

well i have not got a chance to take a look at it yet but i will be goin one day this week the story i got was he crashed the car and had plans to put the motor in a boat he has but some personal problems are forcing him to sell. so there is a plate on the head, anything else i should look for? thanks for the help. and reading some of the posts i know it did not come factory with a carb 
i think it would be pretty cool if it is carbed just for the fact of it being different then what others have, also i am lookin for a side project just to play around with and for a couple hundred bucks i cant go wrong with pickin this up if it is indeed what he says it is, well there is no harm in me goin to take a look i will keep everyone updated on it, thanks again.
